Just starting to drive the 87 after a few "repairs"...

Trans is HD stock type rebuild, maybe 200 miles(hardened stator, good band,CK shift kit and servo, good clutch's,3200-3400 Pats, non track car)Guy that built it is good(Brian Prince, has done alot of em,quite a few on this board)

My car is shuddering coming to a stop, will short shift thru all the gears, bogs between shifts and doesnt shift hard enough at WOT!!!!I just noticed the 1st 2 the other day after a 50 mile drive.

TV cable is adjusted corectly for the shifts @ 5200 WOT.No codes on SM,car runs tip top and u can feel this in the trans.Trans has never slipped...

For the shuddering im thinking lu solenoid,it almost feels like the convertor is locking.

Not sure on the short shifting/bogs on shifts.

Most importantly,it only does this sometime!!Its never shifted hard enough for my taste's though. My builder is thinking adjust the band to firm up the shifts.Hes not sure what else to tweak as hes not familiar with CK's shift kit.(U out there Chris?:D)

My builder doesnt know about the last 2 problems yet....Any ideas??TIA

Does it seem to do it more when its hot? If so pull the connector off the side of hte trans for a while and drive it,If the solenoid is bad(or gets grounded somehow) it will lock right up on the 1-2 shift and will feel real lazy.As far as WOT shift feel,Put a gauge on it, if not check the servo by pushing on it and see how far it move into the case, you may need a band adjustment,Or quite possibly make sure he used 2 real heavy springs in the pump slide,If he usd one or even old ones you could lose quite a bit of shift full throttle

Thanks Otto:)

Yep,does it when its hotter(ie been driven for a while)Ill pull the solenoid power and see.

Builder is good, just not familiar with CK's shift kit,he wants to pull it and put a TCI shift kit in with an adjustable servo as well.I dont wanna have to throw away a $200 shift kit and non adj servo if I dont have to......

I use Chris's shift kit exclusivley,Always work awesome. The only other thing is was there a shift kit or any mods done to this trans prior to this rebuild?

Chris's kit donesnt have really hard shifts,He strives on a very quick shift with proper apply pressure,Real hard shift wear other parts way faster also.As long as the shift are quick and there is no flare or slip,Leave it alone,If it has any of those symptoms, something else is not right.
Full throttle shifts are very dependent on the pump slide springs, I personally use 2 springs and also put a flat washer under them to maintain even better pressure at wot, I have heard of people blocking it completely but I have never tried that.

Also if you have his 200 servo it can be adjustable, Call chris he has what you need to do it,You can also put som large shims between the servo and the cover to push the servo closer to hte band

Thanks again Otto!!

Please dont think im trying to knock CK at all!!

Trans does shift firm but not like other TR's that ive driven/riden in with shift kits.Others bark the tires on the shift to second.

My guy used the spring that Chris sent along with the old one.TCI's kit uses a blocker rod vs spring(s).My guy hasnt knocked CK's kit/servo at all,he just said the TCI was a "fix all" shift kit and thats what he liked to use.....

Trans had been built before, there was some definite rigging going on(lu check valve removed to make shifts harder even though trans was lu,few shims in places they shouldnt ever be)Nothing to intrusive though and everything was "fixed" before reassembly.

Ummm... you have probably the 10" 3400 stall from Pat's. It is a stall converter and will not have the snappy shifts a 12" 2500 conveter will have on the shifts without changing things greatly. If it shifts without winding into gear it is normal. If you want to bark tires put a 12" tight converter in it.

Yea Jesse, mines the 10".Brian told em to get it as close to 3400 as possible. Its invisible till you lay your foot into the gas:cool:

I unplugged the TCC solenoid and problem was gone.New solenoid is on the way from GM:)

Guess ill take it to my guy for band/ servo adjustment and replace the tcc solenoid.Ill post back the results.

Thanks guys!!

Also make sure they didnt put the center ball back in the vlave body< leagin it out helps 2cd shift and its recommended on higher stall convertors,IF YOU WANT TO you can have them take off the 1-2 accumulator and block the feed passsage,It will make 2cd nicer

broke it seems as if the malifunction that has this guy scratching his head is definately not the kit.first verify line pressure at all throttle angles with a gage.if that thing is right every shift will be lets just say not soft.post results and a tci kit will only produce bang shifts if the pressures are right, which id bet they arent, the converter clutch is on or a crossleak is at work.

Thanks guys:)

Maybe its just me, a board member(smokinttype) took a ride in the car and said the trans shifted fine at WOT.

I guess im just used to seeing a harsher shift kit.Im still gonna have the band adjusted.Chris, ill give ya a ring tommorow to find out how to adjust the servo:)

New tcc solenoid will be here Friday:)
