Hey guys. What are your thoughts on some of these 20k and under cars/owners possibly not using zddp because maybe not aware. Would it be car to still consider or walk away. Talk to me. Vinny

I personally think that it is a good idea to run ZDDP or the old GM EOS but I definitely would not let it be a deal breaker for me.
I have bought 2 extremely low mile turbo Buicks over the years and haven't had any problems that I could trace to engine oil no longer having any ZDDP or its equivalent in it.

I think you need to qualify your statement a little further?

If the car is original under the hood, and specifically the valve springs have not been changed, there should be no reason to worry.

Another factor should be considered is that the oil should have been changed a few times during its life, and in the early years and the oil had the proper additives during break-in and after that as well, so all critical parts are well mated, especially the cam/lifters.

Well if the car had more than one owner and no one can really prove if the additive has been used recently. I'm just worried if it can not be proved should it be something to worry about or not worry if it's a good running car. And yes im talking bone stock untouched original. Vinny
