For some strange reason, I took the car out and now the part throttle shifts are at 2800-3000 rpms. I adjusted the TV cable and nothing happens. I drove it a few days ago and it was shifting a little late, but not this violent. When it shifts at part throttle at 3K, it almost rattles my teeth loose. The only thing I changed was the low gear fuel by leaning it out on the Extender chip to get a better launch and added some fuel at WOT with the Translator.

Dumb question, Do I need to drop the pan to check it out? The actually cable inside the sleeve moves easily. It's weird because the day before it was fine and then when I took it out yesterday, this problem started. As if it happened overnight.

Try disconnecting thr TV cable @ the throttle & work the cable 15- 20 times & try. Or (you should have a helper) with the cable disconnected start the car put in R with brakes on & work the cable all the way out several times & try.

Sometimes it will free it up if that's what the prob. is.

Are you sure it's not te governor spring? It also seems to shift early into 2nd and 3rd at times. I plan to drop the pan tonight and take a look. Where can I order a new Spring & or governor online?

For a further description, it seems to hang up in the gear. While coasting, the engine will rev quickly, like it was in neutral, until it reaches 3K+ rpms and then bang into the next gear.

See if you have any debris in the pan. If the gov spring came off it'll be in there or in the gov. housing.

Damn after I cleaned the garage because of the head gasket fiasco, I'm going to make a mess again. Oh well, does it make sense to re-install the spring if that is the case or get a new one? Where can I get a new one? These cars are very temperamental. One day it drives awesome, the next day it shifts like crap.

Marc, if it were the governor spring it would not shift until high rpm and you let off of the gas in almost all cases. Secondly, it would be a constant thing, not intermittant.
More than likely it is some debris in the tv valve area from what you are saying. Use the methods that 77cruiser mentioned. That may well free up what ever is causing your problem. If not, you will have to remove and clean the tv valve. By debris, I don't mean a major hunk of foreign matter, it could be as fine as a hair or a speck of dust material that is all that is needed to cause it. Good luck and let us know,,,,,,

I appreciate the help guys and will try and free up the valve either at the throttle or dropping the pan.

Worse case, Mark I will be placing an order with you for a well built 200-4R and converter.

Jim,

You hit the nail on the head. I pulled that cable and snapped it back maybe 40 times. I took the car out and now it shifts at about 2K with a quick non-harsh shift. I really appreciate it. I hope I can return the favor one day.
