For a while now, I've noticed that the "in" thing is to lower cars for a "slammed to the ground" look. Personnally, I've tried to get used to that tendency, but I still do not like it. I can't help but find that it makes a car look like it has old, sagged springs!
To me, a true muscle car always had the rear end a little higher than stock, with tires as big as the fender wells would accept, giving the car a forward rake without having to do anything special to the front.
Aside from looking like sagged springs, it gives a car has the same attitude as a kid wearing his baseball cap backwards in his "ricer" Honde Civic, which is far from ideal for someone who wants a car with a mean stance!...
Am I the only one feeling like this? To me, that is definitely NOT the "Drag racing, muscle car" look! :frown: I couldn't care less about the supposedly "road-racing-touring" look, especially for a muscle car. That is best left to the jap and euro cars. True muscle cars were meant to go STRAIGHT, like from a stop light to another!...
I'm not pointing at anyone's car in particular, just saying that a lowered car is definitely not for me.

I don't know if it's because I'm old fashioned or what, but I agree with you.
Maybe people are chilling and getting away from drag racing and the expense of it?

My ride is due to saggy stock springs. ;)

I'd rather have a car that handles well under all driving conditions as opposed to being tuned for just a straight line.

I'm hit and miss with the lowered look. Some I like...and some I don't.

I dropped mine a little less than an inch and kept the rake you are talking about. I don't have the slammed look, but it handles far better than stock. I actually put lowering springs in the car for the higher spring rate, then used spacers to bring it up just slightly. Most people don't even think my car is lowered at all, but we had four TR's together last night and mine did set slightly lower than the rest. We each have our own tastes when it comes to cars.

I personally like the lowered look with a bit of a rake. The dog in heat look went out with Gabriel HiJacker air shocks and N50 15 tires sticking out of the wheelwells. :D

I like to think my car still has a drag look to it with the 275/60's on the back. Didn't go skinnys on the front though, used stock size tires with 6" wide rims for a pseudo skinny look.

My caged car with 275/60R15 MT's and Draglites with no front swaybar rides like a freakin lumber wagon down the road. It feels horribly dangerous to me as compared to my 3 other GN's.

To me, I'd rahter have a car that can out-perform all cars at every aspect. It's fun roasting a C6 Vette around corners and in the straight line.

My caged car is fun but it's going to get a suspension make over here real quick!

Agree to disagree, the rear higher than stock will help little to nothing i curves. For most of us that like slammed, its more form than function. I dont care how fast my car is, how much better it handles at super high speeds etc....my car is driven on public roads and I treat it and those around me like that.

Opinions, everyone has one and everyone is entitled to one! But I don't know how in the world your getting these cars (that are lowered PROPERLY) compared to a "ricer" Honda civic or a kid wearing his baseball cap backwards? and why you would only think a mean stance is the jacked up with a big & little look of the 80's? Times change and so do interests and trends along with technology which leads us to today's suspension products that weren't available back then...

Am I the only one feeling like this? To me, that is definitely NOT the "Drag racing, muscle car" look! :frown:
Claude your 100% correct, It isn't the "Drag racing, 80's muscle car look", It's the "Pro-Touring" look that has purpose....Modern Brakes, Lowered center of gravity, better suspension, better handling....It has a purpose just like drag racing does!

I couldn't care less about the supposedly "road-racing-touring" look, especially for a muscle car. That is best left to the jap and euro cars. True muscle cars were meant to go STRAIGHT, like from a stop light to another!...
And I couldn't care less about the "drag racing" Look BUT I still support it and the racers who do and can admire a nice car and someones hard workmanship no matter how it looks or what it is! Drag Racing? It's Old Hat to me and I feel it's actually boring.. Drag racing to me is 90% car / 10% driver while Autocross / road racing is 50% car/ 50% driver... To each their own I guess...we all have opinions right, but if we all had your feelings these cars and our hobby would never evolve and eventually it would all die off....

Nice ride mark, love that look..

Scot, I guess it all comes down to a matter of personal preference. Call me "old school" if you want but yeah, I admit I still like the jacked up look of the 80's!...

Well Scot, I couldn't agree more with you just wrote "To each his own"
All that matters to me is that my GN can go as fast as possible in a straight line. It was the main reason why I bought it in '87 and it still is today!

and:

yeah, all low cars look slow and stupid..

Woooow...I never said that...YOU did. Re-read my initial post carefully and you'll see that nowhere I used the words "slow and stupid"...

Claude.

P.S: Guys, I hope I didn't offend anyone with my initial post. I clearly specified that I wasn't pointing at anyone's car. It wasn't my intention to open a "can of worms". I just wanted to express my personal views on lowered cars, nothing more.

Dont sweat it Claude. You just forgot to mention the HUGE rims and lowered. Call us old, but that look never flies with me either. My car is dropped 2 inches from factory, but I still run 15 inch rims and MT ET Streets. The 20-22-24 inch rims on a GN or T...are a waste of what the car was built for. Its like lowering an airplane...it dont work!!! IT WAS MEANT TO FLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The lowered cars always looked mean to me. Maybe its a generation gap or something? I'm 32 btw:)
Anytime you go to the track (drag) the serious cars are always sitting low. Not talking about your average 11 sec bracket racing Nova that sits higher than my tahoe but the 6-8 second heads up style cars. The style the op mentions reminds me of a 80 Camaro with wheels sticking out the fenders in the back and the front sitting about 2" lower than the back. Typical of a trailer park, mullet having dude listening to some judast priest while cruising down the road (I'm Just playing....not trying to piss off anyone lol....but that is really what his description reminds me of). If we all liked the same thing, it would be pretty boring here. When you would go to the events it would be like 50 black regals with draglites.....how cool would that be?

It's been brought to my attention

this thread would be more appropriate in the lounge.

this thread would be more appropriate in the lounge.

Curiously, there is a thread in the "Brakes, Suspensions, Tires and Wheels" section that was started by "disco stu"called "Lower is gooder" . Seeing that, and preferring cars that sit higher, I started one calling it "lower is bad" only to find out that after several posts (18 to be exact), my thread ends up being moved into the "lounge" section...:(...nice!

Claude.
