Madman & Co. was trying to build a single turbo LS1, but I think they scrapped it. I remember him saying they couldn't get it to hold the power. Of course, I think they were in the 1000+hp range.

Later,

Steve.

There is one out there (382ci LS1 w/ a single 88mm turbo) that made 1150fwhp on a motor dyno at Wheel to Wheel.... The motor was going in a '96 Formula drag car that weighs 3100lbs and from what I heard it ran 9.19 this weekend at the North Vs. South race... Here is a thread about the motor...

Pretty impressive, but I don't think it will stay together very long (they are pushing it to the limits) and making more power than that would most likely require an iron truck block (6.0L) or better yet the C5-R block....

Here is a pic of the motor in the car....

This is the baddest LT1/LS1 turbo setup I have seen so far:cool:

Thats why I bought it. :D Tired of paying like $500 for roller rockers, not having parts readily available, and I miss that V8 rumble. It will be sprayed until its fast. Screw hi tech. 4bbl Holley, big headers, big roller cam, and nitrous. Yeah, its loud, has manual steering, and no options, but its also light and cheap, cheap, cheap.

Like I said, I wasn't disputing the best way to mod an LS1, just pointing out that there are some very fast turbo LS1 cars out there.

Yeah from what I've seen the Mustangs are the best bang for your buck car mainly because there are a crapload of them out there so as you said parts are readily available and cheap because of all the competition in the aftermarket.... I've seen several fast Mustangs that were built like you have in mind (nothing high tech just a carbed small block with spray) and they can be quite nasty.... The notchback (trunk car) Mustangs are light to begin with and then you start gutting them and you can easily get one down to 2800lbs....

No doubt there are some very fast turbo LS1 cars and I'm sure within the next couple of years there will be several more....

Yeah, I weighed my notchback today. It was 2800 lbs. w/o me in it. Still gotta remove the heat/ A/C box, put in lighter seats, and swap out the steering wheel. Its getting a fuel cell too. Not that it needs it, but the stock tank is leaking and this is cheaper and better.

I think the iron truck block will allow some very powerful numbers. Like you said, its only a matter of time.
