I'm going to be building a new engine for my GN this winter. I will probably build a TSM legal assembly. However, I do drive this car on the street a good bit. With that in mind, I don't want to select a turbo based solely on a class that I'm not likely to win anyway. I have researched this topic and I've noticed a couple of trends. It seems that the "milder" cars with ported irons see no benefit when stepping up to a "Q". Conversely, the more heavily "built" cars seem to pick up 50~60 horses on the swap.

Here is my proposed combo:
-girdled 109 block
-.020" JE pistons
-Comp 218/218 flat
-Champion aluminum heads (out of the box - no porting)
-Stock headers
-75# injectors/dual pumps
-3,600 stall lockup
-Transbrake
-3,700~3,800# raceweight

My question:
Which turbo (based on experience) would give me the best "all around" performance?

a) GTQ71 w/ PTE .63 housing

b) LTE70-1 "P" trim w/ Garrett .82 housing

c) GTQ71 w/ PTE .82 housing

d) Other (please list) _________

Thanks for looking!

I personally don't think you would be splitting hairs between the two. The difference is not night and day. Either one would justify your needs. If you really wanted to see big gains with either turbo get it tuned well by a credible tuner (ie: Job Spetter Jr/ Billy Anderson). That knows i ins and outs of your engine mangement and can extract the most out of your combonation. I think lots more has to do with the tranny/ stall combo to get the best outta your turbo choice. Talk to Billy Anderson this guy eat, breathes, sleeps this stuff and his cars always run like a shot outta hell. Goodluck

I like The GTQ 70 w/.85 PTE (TSM turbo) BTW I happen to have one for sale with less than 500 mile PM me if interested
