I see that Autozone has Cardone MAF's for sale cheap for our TR's. Anyone had any experience with this unit?

Can't say for sure....but it is and always will be a general rule for me not to buy anything electrical from autozone.

Funny how many others i know say the same.....their electrical items are just no good for some reason it seems!

Give me an example of what you are referring to?? Exactly what did you buy and what happened.

Starters, alternators, different type of sensors and or switches. Anything from IAC valves, to TPS sensors, to temp sensors that just fail or are no good at install time even.

Only item i have had luck with electrically is batteries for some reason...they don't give me problems.

This is my experience...in our town, maybe others get better products...i don't know.

I always go to advanced auto first here.

I can vouch on autozones alternators and starters, pure junk, will never use anything electrical from there again. Had one of their alternators puke on me 2 days after install.

Concerning your question about MAFs, any non-AC Delco MAF will be hit and miss. You may have to go thru 4 or 5 or more before finding a good Cardone or Granatelli MAF that will work correctly for our cars. Has nothing to do with Autozone as far as the MAF is concerned.
If you want to keep your TR orginal, then you'll have to fork out the $$ for a rare AC Delco one, or if you want reliability, then get the LS1 or LT1 MAF and the Translator...they work great and are 10x more durable than the stockers are.

Oh, didn't notice your mod list....get the LS1 MAF and the Translator Plus...then you'll have fuel and spark at WOT that you can tailor....additionally get the extender chip and it will "extend" the MAF readings way past the stock 255 limit which may come in handy with the bigger turbo you have.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but to use the LS1 MAF and translator, do I need to use the translator chip? I wanted to pick up a turbotweak chip.

Have read the 4 or 5 thing, but also hear many chime in with mine is fine. 2QUIK6, did you have to go thru lots of aftermarket MAF's before finding one that worked?

The Translator or Translator Plus will work with any chip. Of course we recommend the Extender but the TurboTweak unit is the only other thing I would also recommend

I went the Trans+ route for tunability before my original crapped out, that way I have a spare original AC Delco MAF for the TTA. Yes, a good aftermarket stock replacement can be found, but each MAF is a little different in how it reacts, thats the reason you may have to go thru a couple before finding a good one...this is also one of the reasons GM did not continue to use this design because it was not very durable.

I got a new, original GM MAF, while my original unit was still good. When I went back to it, there was a problem - kinda confirms the relaibility question
