ok, in drive and od, car shifts fine. i like to start in 1st and shift up to drive while around town or at the strip. sometimes if i do not hit the rpm range perfect, the tranny will get stuck in a false neutral between 1-2 and i have to let up and then it will shift to 2. sometimes it shifts flawless. i recently put on a new shift cable (gm), could it be a touch out of adjustment, something else, or just the "hazards" of shifting by hand?
thanks to all,
lee

Hey Lee, I'm in ABQ and don't think I have met you yet. In terms of you shifting issue I'm not sure why you would want to shift it yourself. I always put the car in drive at the track and if your TV cable is set correctly and the trans is built to match you engines power band it should shift spot on. As far as a "false neutral" it could be a linkage issue. Would be happy to get together sometime to help you out. Tom

thanks tom. we have not met, so maybe sometime we can meet up somewhere, i would like to see your car.
as far as shifting, i just like the way it spools and takes off in 1. like i said initially, in d or od cars runs dandy.
maybe heading to the drags this fri. night (6-15), i should be there around 6 -6:30. i like to park against the west end fence. again, not positive i am going yet. e-mail me and i can let you know.

manual shifts at full throttle may not happen if the governer pressure and road speed are too low to open the shift valve.this is part of the hydraulic circuitrys design

thanks chris, i was was hoping it was something easily explained. i have not had a problem shifting up from 1 after a launch, it usually happens driving around town. is it not a good idea to make a habit if this on the street?
thanks again,
lee
