This is my magnetic drain plug after about 3k miles on the oil that was drained. I've been using the magnetic plug for about 2 oil changes now. I cut open the filter and noticed very small, fine silt-like metallic shavings in the oil from the filter and the media once I cut the filter open. Is this a normal amount of metal that one would expect or should I be expecting my cam and motor to go soon? I put Kirban's valve springs on about 6-7k miles ago. I did NOT reuse the cups from the original springs. Car runs smoothly otherwise and I stay away from knock.

Normal from what I've seen.

You may see less after more miles with the thing, I don't even look at mine anymore just wipe it off, if there's no chunks everythings good.

Nice pic. by the way. :)

Is that set on the mini-fridge, or are you that tall?

Normal by the way, or at least what my daily driver has been doing since i started using it 3 years ago.
Hopefully you will be getting less metal the more often you change it.

rebuild

Hi,
Man, that seems like a lot of steel. I'm gonna have to install one of those! I would be extemely concerned about this. Perhaps, the block wasn't washed thoroughly when the rebuild was done. If so, then this is machining debris. Otherwise.... Thank god for imbedable bearings!

Normal for me...mine has been looking like that at oil changes for 60 k plus miles
