Metro door seals

I just bought a pair of Metro Supersoft door seals for my project '87 Turbo T. I installed them today and can honestly say I'm not impressed. From what I can tell the molded ends are formed from rubber that is too hard. When you attempt to close the door the rubber compresses but the door is very difficult to shut. I guess it's fair to say you get what you pay for. I decided to bit the bullet and get new GM seals instead. Just wanted to share my experience for anyone in the market for door seals.

i bought them too, one side is already pulling from the door. the factory stuff had a piece of plastic at the end where it connects to the door. they are a little stiff i'm hoping they break in a bit with this summer heat.

I agree they are junk. The ends are too flexible and get hung up on the window when it goes up and down. The little black clips that hold them where the window slides up/down tore right off. The doors do not close properly either. JUNK

Stay away if u know best.

They are complete garbage!!!. I always here the same thing " o you just don't know how to put them on correctly" I call bullsh#& I had a guy down here telling me he could do it and we didn't know what we were doing. After me and the 8 bodymen at my dealership failed. Only to have him look like a total chump at the end of it and blame my car lol

You guys should be careful on what you wish for. The GM stuff coming out nowadays SUCKS!!
They are discontinued or not making them anymore either and honestly would not be shocked if they were using the same company that makes the Metro ones and repackaging them. I too had a bit of an issue with the door molding but after putting some weatherstrip adhesive on the end its on and I'm done. From all the aftermarket companies Metro is the closest I've seen and prices are affordable. If one of our vendors ever gets one made that fits with no problems they will have my money.

Gm is expensive but it made it on your vehicle for 20+ years. I have never had a problem with the GM seals fitting.

I wouldn't say the gm stuff coming out now sucks. I paint at a GM dealership and to be honest, if i can get a AC delco part for my car over almost anything else, I do. It always fits properly and has a good warranty.

I had good luck with these. On my car now, installed by a friend who also does convertible tops etc... Only thing I didn't like is they developed a fine white powdery residue at first but it washed right off. Windows go up and down well, doors close nice too. I guess I got lucky.

Not sure if they make the G-body seals, but we use T&N seals on the tri 5 cars. About the only mfgr that does it right....

Steele rubber products

Has anyone tried the Steele rubber products advertised on My Classic Car? I don't know if they even offer products for the Regal?

They do, I was originally gonna go with the Steele's but I read somewhere that METRO was better.
Edit: Here's the post that swayed me towards the Metro's over the Steele. I haven't attempted the Metro install yet, so I'm hopeful I'll have the same luck as a few others. Seems to be hit or miss.

Put a set of Metro door seals on the '87 GN one year ago....no problems yet...doors were hard to shut at first, but now they shut with a solid thunk....took time for the seals to compress, but they are holding up wonderful...hope I don't have any problems like the others here did....maybe I'm just lucky in this instance (a rarity)

They seem to fit OK but I don't like the extreme amount of effort it takes to close the door. I have to physically slam it to get it to close. Keep in mind without the seals the door will close with the push of a finger. I've got the GM ones on order, I'll keep you posted on the difference when I get them installed.

I got scared with hearing the horror stories and replaced the trunk seal, door seals and t-top seals. cost a small fortune but very happy with the results, and I believe you will be too.

I had the same experience. They seem ok after they wear in.

im having the same problem with closing the doors at first after install, that i thought something was caught on the door...lol, but its getting a little better every week. It just needs time to settle.
My problem is that i cant even close the windows all the way up when the doors are closed since the weather stripping is so hard/tight.
Im wondering if anyone ever put on some treatment/softener of some sort to soften them up in order to help the window slide better up n down..
and please dont say Butter...lol

I sprayed silicone spray on mine to get the windows on the cutlass to go up. Plain and simple i will never buy these again

last week i wasa able to get my hands on some HONDA Shin-Etsu Grease, for the Metro weatherstrippping. Believe it or not the grease helped alot. Still not 100% but it definately helped.
Just wanted to pass it on if anyone interested.
