Well now that my GN is emissions exempt, I would like to gut my "high flow" 3in cat.

I am considering gutting it and having a bypass tube welded into it. Has anyone done this? If you have, I would appreciate it if you would shed some light on the process, especially installing the inner pipe.

**I WANT TO KEEP THE CAR "STOCK" APPEARING**

I did the one on my 94 stang. Just took a long solid rod and knocked all of the guts out of it.

I had a gutted cat once. Didn't have a welded in tube though.
BTW, it was mainly for dyno testing on a C5 Corvette. Car didn't really pick up much power and it smelled like unburned gasoline.

How to gut your cat....

1. Secure the cat so it doesn't move...vice or some other means

2. Open trunk, grab the factory lug wrench

3. Shove the "hub cap prybar" side of the lug wrench into cat, might take a few good shoves to get it all the way thru the cat

4. Pretend you're an Amish dude churning butter...gyrate the lug wrench around to break up the catalyst

5. Dump out the inner contents...walla, gutted cat.

Or better yet there's a company on the net that sells cats without the guts for show.....and you could sell your cat to someone that needs it...just a thought.

If you really wanted it to be a straight tube thru, the only way I could think of is to take a straight pipe and weld the cat cover halves to it.

Hi Flow "No Cat" Convertor

I believe this is what you're looking for!

Available from Frozenboost.com

However, if you want to be legal and still have a functional catalytic convertor....you have to look no further than todays Hi FLow Metal Matrix Cats. These things flow as good as no cat and still protect the environment.

Your choice!

If it wasnt so damn cold outside right now I would have already gutted my cat... thing is, everything fits that's why I want to keep mine. It's a 3in unit from kirbans that is supposedly "high flow" but simply running an open down pipe tells me different. I know the hooker exhaust is rather free flowing, so that's why Im targeting the cat next.

Oh and far as the environment is concerned... I run 50/50 E85, and have lived near Texas refineries long enough to tell you that my car, or any other car for that matter is not and never has been any real part of the "air pollution" problem... one good volcanic eruption produces more greenhouse gasses than humans have produced in the entire time we have existed. Forgive me for not feeling bad  Haha!

Well now that my GN is emissions exempt .... QUOTE]

Lucky Texans! Out here on Left Coast they now regulate lawn mowers & leaf blowers. Years ago they required manufactures put reducers in all shower nozzels sold in Ca., and since 1/1/2011 we can't purchase 100w lightbulbs. Oh, & alcohol is now available only for non-street registered (ie. race) cars (although still avail in 1/2 gal cans at Home Depot, etc. at x2 price). Moved here 23 yrs ago, is beautiful but sure do miss Houston. Y'all's registration is way cheap too. Maby figure how to reg. mine in Tx, but the plate would be so obvious I'd get pulled over.
Those Frozenboost cats look cool, but I'd warn any Ca. members that not only must we have cats, my last smog tech said it must have a legit BAR # & no older than 5 yrs old. I'm moving on retirement.

i normally remove all the insides then get my exhaust shop too swage the ends open so i can slide a peice of exhaust pipe the size of my exhaust down it then weld it.hollow cats cost power hollow cat with pipe down it gains power

verified on Gtech RR and with fuel trims in ecu and wideband readings on both N/A and turbo V6
