I found the stats. In 2007 there were 60,851 assaults on Police Officers. Using your number of 850,000 Police Officers that works out to 1 in every 14 Officers were assaulted in 2007. Hmmmm, maybe that explains why Officers escalate force when dealing with unknown subjects who are not compliant.

Now lets move on to some of your immoral or idiotic statements.

I find it not only idotic but immoral to suggest that if a Police Officer is injured in the line of duty it is less of an injury because he has health insurance. Come on, just admit that this is truley just your hatred for the Police and has nothing to do with facts.

I have nothing but respect for the military and would never question or deminish their service so I will not even think of addressing this portion of your argument. Just imagine if I was like you and pulled only certain numbers out and then used them for my argument.

You keep going to freedom. With freedom comes responsibilty. If you conduct yourself appropriately in a free society you have absolutely nothing to fear from Police. The only time you need to fear the Police in a free society is when you exceed those freedoms.

Did you know that even just touching a police officer can land you in jail for assault? In fact, many police watchdog organizations (that usually have no problem toeing the line) specifically advise to never under any circumstance touch a police officer for this reason.

Clearly the threshold for "assault" is quite different for a police officer than it is for John Q. Citizen. Funny how the police operate like that. It's also worth noting that a lot of these escalations were driven by the police officer. Take this video incident, or the one in Utah just like it, or the thousands of others that happen without recourse to people who are poor or ignorant of their rights. It's not hard to see how police can be "assaulted" without any injury.

So I would suggest you take your figure on assault with a very large grain of salt.

What it still comes down to, like it or not, is that being a police officer is not very dangerous relative to many other professions. It's inherent dangers are exaggerated and used an excuse for escalation of force.

About the subject of freedom; The police do far more to enforce laws that simply limit freedom than to protect anyone's freedom. Tell me how that police officer that electrocuted that woman was protecting anyone's freedom... please tell me how revenue driven traffic enforcement protects anyone's freedom. Tell me how the drug war protects anyone's freedom. Tell me how coerced warrant-less searches for "illegal modifications" of vehicles protects anyone's freedom. Consider that in order to have freedom, you actually have to be free and not preemptively punished for crimes that have not been committed.
We have everything to fear from the police, they are the preferred tool of tyrants. The longer leash they are given the more they will take.

Guess the public pressure finally got to the deptment. Interesting how fast attorney general dismissed the charges, folded like a lawn chair. They knew they were so bogus they wouldn't fly. So this Officer Friendly is getting iced with no pay, boo hoo for him, in the meantime his over reaction will end up costing the county a pile of money for the cost of being sued (she will definately win). Way to go.

Am I the only one that thinks everything in this post is right on the money? A man of my own words...Id also like to add,for those that dont allready know,I was harrassed over 15 times by a officer on the water,I filed a complaint threw my lawyer to his Major,he did it again and I was highly upset as nobody would return my calls so I accidently slipped and said if he keeps on harrasing me,I wont pull over next time,I wont stop for the same BS just so he can waste my time again and again,I will do whatever it takes to protect my rights even if it means shooting the officer....3 months later I was arrested and faced 5 years in prison and had a 50,000 bond....Let me ask you people, have you heard of anybody you know ever facing these kind of charges over a pissed off rant? NO...They arrested me on my birthday in front of my kids,I fought it with 2 lawyers at trial and got off due to a tecnicality(did not prove Venue).....

What I said was stupid but the cop was clearly harrasing me and I had many witnesses to this,Ive heard many threats like this to other people, but I faced big time in jail when less time is handed to rapest and child molesters and so on....one good thing is ive not been pulled over 1 time since,I can only hope one of those officers needs me to pull him out of a burning car or house,I wont even piss on the fire to help put it out!

If she would of fought the ticket in court and stayed in the car she would never have been tased.

BS. The speeding ticket would have stuck because it’s his word against hers and we all know that he wouldn't lie in court.

I like these threads because it shows how deferent the civilians and the cops look at the same picture and how we can come up with a million excuses as to why and why nots.
The sad part is that we start making stupid comments at each other instead of learning from each other.

Civilians are far from perfect. The key is not to take it personal when it isn't personal. "They act like animals" Not talking about ME, so what ever.

Cops are far from perfect. The key is not to take it personal when it isn't personal. "The cop is a POS" Not talking about YOU, so what ever.

Is this too hard to grasp?
I admit thou that I usually don’t give the cops the benefit of doubt. And this is because of my experiences with them. But at the same time I don’t ever disrespect them when I do interact with them.

Well put...can't we all just get along :D

If she was speeding she deserves a ticket, granted only 5 over but still speeding. If she gets out of the car and starts to b!tch about being pulled over she deserves what she got. I agree that the cop took it a little too far but he doesnt know what this lady is capable of.

I still stand by my statement, if she would have stayed in the car, she would'nt of been tased. Do I feel compassion for her getting tased......yeah I do, but she brought it upon herself.

And for the record I'm not a Cop  , but have helped them buy alot of things over the years

The only time I've EVER gotten out of the car when being stopped is when I found my license and handed it to the Officer.

I hope you didn't run up the the cop car with it in your hand...otherwise you probably should have been shot according to some peoples philosophies...it could have been a gun  :D

BE REPSONSIBLE FOR UR ACTIONS! this lady must be semi retarded for getting out of her car. she did the big no no and it ended up sad.

I always get out... I'm kind of shocked that it is widely considered a no-no.

I haven't been pulled over a lot... maybe five or six times... but I always pull right over then get out and walk to the back of my car and wait for the cop who always gets out and approaches me. Then I introduce myself and shake his hand (in the hope that he will like me and let me go... which hasn't worked yet :( ) and act friendly. Then I get whatever documents he wants me to get and take my ticket like a big boy.

I'm not saying that's the right way to go about it, just that I had no idea it wasn't and every cop I've dealt with in that manner has been very friendly.

True story... early one Sunday morning I came blasting up the bridge from Pensacola Beach into Gulf Breeze (FL) at about 80 MPH only to crest the thing and see a trooper sitting at the base. Without even being lit up I slow down, pull in behind him, walk up to his car and hand him my license. He kind of laughed and only gave me a $25 ticket.

Hahahaha lol. No I didnt, I just yelled and threw a hissy fit

With all do respect Brett,

Looking at that video I Do Not see an Irate person!! (IF she was to be irate I guess it could be anger about being pulled over for only going 5 over and being ACCUSED for being on a cell phone!) So to use that line as a example first I really think the person needs to be Irate..

Just to let everyone know I have 7 very good friends that are LEO's and I respect them and the job they do very much. I see these guy's on a daily basis so I sent this link to all 7 of them and i'm awaiting there responce. I'm really curious to see what all 7 of them have to say about this routine traffic stop and the reply's here.. Once they reply I will be more than happy to post there reply's..

SW.
I would say "Respectfully, refer to post #48".

I don't doubt that your motor vehicle stop went like that but man I can tell you if you tried that in some areas of the country you would be given a sharp warning to return to ur vehicle. Then ur goin to jail or worse. That is just not tolerated in the TRI state area up North. I guess things are just different down south.

I do see departments in Texas and other states down south operate like that but God help them if your gonna let a complete stranger get that close to you. It guess it happens tho. I have seen 2-3 videos from Texas DPS Troopers getten jumped by 5 Mexicans and disarmed, shot and killed all because he let all of them out at once. I just don't get it.

You stay in the car and put ur hands on the sterring wheel. I do when ever I get stopped. I don't wan't to get shot either.

I may be wrong but I bet Officer Friendly was iced without pay because cell phone records might show no phone usage. He only "observed" her going 5 mph over the speed limit, no radar. He must eat lots of carrots to see a 5 mph difference between 45 and 50.

That is what they teach you to do on the weed sites, get out and keep the cop away from the car:biggrin:

Sorry, just thought a little humor for a break would be nice;)

I just don't understand what the bicking is about a woman getting tasered. It's plan and simple, if she would have not acted up, remain in the vehicle as told none of this would've happened. You do not challenge motor vehicle violations on the side of the road. Take the summons(es) and set up a court date.

What ever you do when you get stopped, remain in the vehicle unless told otherwise.

What I've been seeing lately is the public is challenging the police. I just don't get society anymore. They'll challenge the police, gettheir a$$ get whopped and then sue. We have a DWI case that is going for a suppression hearing. The attorney is saying that there was no reason to give field sobriety tests. The driver was involved in a multi car MVA, odor of alcoholic beverages on her breath, could not stand, slurred speech, witnesses from the other vehicle also noticed her actions but there is no reason to perform field sobriety tests. And yes, she was over .08. Give me a fukking break

I was stopped by a West Virginia trooper coming back from BG one year. I was towing my car. He stopped me for 62 in a 60 on I-68/70  . I already knew where this was going and did not say anything. And yes I was a LEO. I'm in his sandbox and I have to play nice. Needless to say, he threw my wallet with my ID at me and left on the side of the road. I was facing uphill, car in tow and it was a PITA to get back into traffic. Did I report him...."No". Karma would get him.

If people would be responsible for their actions, none of this stuff would happen. They have to blame someone else for their mistakes.

First you say not to challenge the police and then you say what a BAD cop just did to you,but if we dont stand against them then when will they learn? If that cop threw something at me I would have called his Major on the spot and not just sat around waiting for Karma:rolleyes: its people like you that allow the tards to push you around, that keeps them thinking they are above the law..Report as much as you can to the "right" people in charge, get lawyers involved as much as possible and challenge authority, this is the only way we can stop what is escalating to a serious issue with police brutality!!!!

And like you clearly stated "people should be responsible for their actions" and the same goes with that cop that pulled you over.

You do not challenge motor vehicle violations on the side of the road.
Yes, and when your wife gets raped by a Officer DowhatIsay, then what? What happens when you have to take time off from work to fight a bogus speeding charge from Officer Quotamaker?
By far the best case senario for a unjust charges is video followed by credible witnesses willing to stand up to the Man. In my city, until the PD got hit with some very costly police brutality cases that were more than proven, a core of bad cops terrorized regular citizens. After some very brave private citizens came forward to dispute the bad cops, the suing began. Finally the city got it and forced the PD to clean up it's act and treat people correctly. It's been several years since we've had a obviously bad cop. I'm sure there's still some bad apples on the street but nowhere near the number we once had. Until exposed to the light of day, they will continue to harass ordinary people.

The words you spoke in 5 seconds cost you thousands and much humiliation. Looks like the patriot act got you. Words arent only words anymore. Was it worth it? ...And believe me im no proponent of that patriot act
