After doing a search and reading way too long about noisy lifters I’m curious which you prefer and why.
Thanks
Chad

I'm running comp roller lifters and they SUCK. They have ticked since day one but at the time morel was not out yet . Run Morel, they can't be worse than comps !!!!!!!!!!

Mike Barnard, (user name SPOOLFOOL2 on this forum) is the person responsible for getting the Morel's made and / or modified for our cars. If you PM him, he can give you all of the information regarding the Morel lifters. If you do a search, there are several posts / threads regarding this.
Mike posts a lot in the regional Southwestern section, Turbo lounge, this section, and he is also the person responsible for getting Alan Budnick to make up some almost identical billet center aluminum GN look-a-like rims, which are pictured up in the wheel section. HTH

don't expect that you put a set of either ones and have quiet valve train , I went through 3 sets of Morel and took same with Comps before I PUT TOGETHER set that was quiet ,that sucks ,pulling intake 3 times or so but that's what it takes for some people ,first set of Morels I put in was so bad it was setting off knock sensor over 5k RPM every time ,you may get lucky but also ...you have to have your valve train set up right for either lifter to be quiet ,need right oil too , I am running 0.596" total lift with my 220/224 cam and 1.65 roller rockers and my valve train sounds almost like stock , once again took 3 sets of either lifter design to be like that ,good luck

Mike is right about correct pushrod and preload BUT as far as I'm concerned those comp cam lifters are JUNK !! I do know afew guys that have them now and they seem to be alright but Mike know's ALL the trouble I had with them threw the years, I fought those things for 5 years. Had my intake off 6 times and even sent some of them to Ed Morel before Mike B. even got with Morel to make some up for our motors and what Ed had to say about them wasn't nice. I do know how to set up my valvetrain so that wasn't the issue, it was those piece of JUNK lifters. I even had one of those junk ass lifters flat freeze up driving down the street at 35 mph and bent a push rod. Mike knows I even tried all kinds of preload on them (about wore my valve covers out taking them on and off). Tried preloads from 15ths. to about 75ths. with NO !!difference in lifter noise and yes I tried all kinds of oil. Even tried some additives such as Lucas oil stabilizer and Sea Foam to NO avail. It was the lifters plain and simple. I have since installed the new Morels and so far (almost 2 years now) I have a nice QUITE valve train. So I say it again : Comp Cam roller lifters are JUNK in my book.!!

I don't know if some folks interpretation of noisy lifters are different from others? I have installed comp lifters in two motors & they sound fine to me. Not completely undetectable, but I would say they sound like an industrial sewing machine, nothing I would ever complain about.

Thats pretty much what mine sounds like I'll have to use that analogy when discribing it to people. Mine are loud but have never set off the knock detector so it's something I can live with.

If you want your car's valve train to sound stock, go with stock style lifters (flat tappet). Unfortunately, if you do, there's a good chance you'll wipe a lobe and take out the rest of your motor, thanks to today's motor oils and other factors. The Morels are not totaly quiet. They are about half as noisy as other hyd rollers. I believe that most of this is do to better tolerances. Also, they seem to get quieter, the more miles you put on them. While testing the first set of morels, ( to which I'm still running) we ran them at preloads from .020" to .060" and they functioned and sounded the same.

For those that want to read the detailed version.

Happy spooling.

Thanks for all the info, experiences, and the reading. I will order the morels and most likely be back for more questions come the time for the install.

One question though. If pushrod length and preload are so important why do some of the vendors sell roller kits with pushrods? Wouldn’t you need to measure and then order the length you need? It does not make sense to order a kit with push rods or am I missing something.

Thanks again for all your knowledge and willingness to share.
Chad

I can answer that. Because we have lots of customers that refunse to measure they just want something to bolt in. I know it is wrong and we tell them to check the preload. Over the years we know what will work in MOST cars. We do offer the checking tool and will be happy to excange any unused pushrod for the correct size in a reasonable time frame
Mike

Thanks Mike. I will be calling you yet this morning for a roller kit.
Thanks again.
