bought an msd dis 4 in '10....car cut out in '11, about 10 months into owning the unit, which really hadn't been run that much do to many other problems with the car. sent it to msd, and they repaired it under warranty...said that a processer was replaced. it's been back on the car and running for about 5 months now. had the car out yesterday, and boom, just shut down, crank, no start. first thing i did was put the bypass plug in and fired right up. i'm sure i'm going to have to fight with msd to get them to do something. i know i'm not the only one who has problems with these obviously poorly designed units!

well, just called msd and they said they're going to warranty the 'repair" they made 8 months ago, but not the unit itself. then she tells me the unit is from 2005! i said, "that's funny because i bought it in 2010!" so, i'm gonna send it in and see what happens.

I'm surprise actually that people are still trying to use that thing, after all the bad feedback it's been hit with over the last half dozen years!

i never heard anything negative until i started posting about my problems...it was even recommended by Dale Cherry......

Well, I don't know about how the present search function operates, but had you done a search when the old board software was running, you'd have found volumes on the troubles particular to our cars and the DIS-4 system.

so, is it just our cars and the dis 4, or just the dis 4?

If I was going to run anything ignition wise, it would Bob's new module/coil set up.

i'm still thinking about the "it's from 2005" comment she made to me...is that to mean that there's a newer version out? i think i may have heard something about that from another GN guy around here...if that's the case, and there were problems, why didn't they pull them out of stock from their retailers and replace them with the updates, and moreso, give me an updated one when i sent in for the original repair??

Some of the issues were compatibility with the FAST system. My DIS4-HO STB, and then the threads started about the problems.. I took mine off, and ran the straight ign. NP.

The dis boxes have problems on other cars also:(Seems to be a poor design

I've had one bad right outta the box. I don't use them anymore at all. The stock ignition system works fine up to and beyond 750+HP.

no input on old/new version? i like the options of having a rev limiter and 2 step....my money's already out, so i'll start balking about them giving me the newer version.....

Well, I must be the exception...I've had my DIS-4 for 4 years now and no problem with it. :p

Claude. :)

where do you have it mounted? how often do you drive it?
"trbojo", it's mounted in the engine compartment, front left corner. (See picture)
I drive the car every now and then, but not everyday...

Claude. ;)
