My goal...10's w/PT54 and unported heads

Well Kevin, I couldn't hit the 10 sec mark either. Went to the track today. Here's what my best timeslip says:
R/T... -136
60' ... 1.568
330...4.535
1/8 ...7.096
mph@1/8...95.54
1000'...9.331
1/4...11.23
mph...118.38

My o2s were right around .89 but dropped to .86 at the end of the track. My 30lb boost gauge was pegged. I was afraid to take fuel out for fear that the cold air would cause severe overboost, so I kept it on the rich side. I didn't see any knock retard. I really think that with some lightweight aluminum wheels with skinnies up front, I may have got a little closer.

I did not hit the 10's today either. But I think Tim and I had a good day overall.
My best time of the day with 3700# car and 1/2 tank of gas
R/T... .009
60' ... 1.564
330...4.579
1/8 ...7.166
mph@1/8...94.81
1000'...9.417
1/4...11.33
mph...116.88
The run that would've been my best time I left the car go before the boost was in.
R/T... .276
60' ... 1.749
330...4.761
1/8 ...7.315
mph@1/8...96.16
1000'...9.536
1/4...11.433
mph...118.51

If i would have cut another 1.56 60' I think the car would've gone 11 teens? Who knows. But i'll be back at it on Nov 12th.

Good run guys! Was this during a test and tune or bracket tracing? I noticed your reaction times were all very good. I was doing the same thing and GNMike helped me realize to worry about launching, not r/t times. Instead of worrying about a .500 light, I worried about launching at the right boost each time wich helped out launching the car.
Turbotimmer, that does seem a little rich, but safe. I was running on the lean is mean concept and now suffer from a melted piston. Maybe try lower 800's high 700's next time. My o2s were mid to low 700's the run it suffered the meltdown.
Keep it up!

those are great times what was your boost at on those runs

This was during bracket racing. I never worry about reaction times, but I was cutting good lights all day. The last run with the 1.74 60' I got caught up in the reaction time thing. I usually don't.

my 1st gn
The 11.33 run was 26-27 psi and the 11.43 @118.5 was 28-29 psi with no knock and the o2's were 790-800 on my scanmaster.

how much boost do you leave with that's a great 60' an what tires do run

Kevin this is why you don't use a scanmaster to tune at your boost level! 800 mv could mean anything depending on your egt

I run 28x9 Hoosier slicks. Yesterday i was leaving with around 8-10# of boost. My first pass was a 1.57 60' and the second was a 1.56 60'. These were my best 60' ever. I have boxed stock lowers with poly bushings, airbag in the right side and an ATR rear sway bar. The internals of the rear are stock. I'm worried about breaking the rear now. Time for more $$$

TO clear up some chart confusion read this:

Sure if you look at the different colors you can see the legend at the side

red is 900c=1652 F
pink is 750c=1380f
blue is 500c=932 f

so lets say your tuniing to 800 mv and you think its rich if we go on the graph you can see

800 mv at 1650f the actual a/f is=13.0
800 mv at 1380f the actual a/f=14.0
800 mv at 932f the actual a/f=14.7

So how can you tune to that when it could mean anything in actual a/f dependaning on the heat of the egt. This is why you need a wide band and egt to see whats happening

yup I broke my rear yesterday trying to leave at 15 lbs on my 2nd pass first pass was ok left with 10 lbs

60... 1.60
1/8... 7.369 @93.20 mph
1/4... 11.60 @116

Man i was hoping you could get into the 10s this year, that would have been great hearing that you did it.

There is always next year!

Thanks,
Next year will see something a little different. The 3.8 will be done up with forged pistons, stock crank and rods, girdle and roller cam. I am dropping the heads and intake off to a buddy of mine this week. He is an awesome head porter. Although he has never done 3.8 heads before, he has a great resume with all kinds of other engines. Some of his heads have set records in the NMCA, local dirt tracks, sand drags and marine engines. Not to mention he is going to do the work for cheaper than a set of Champions. It pays to know people! Once he gets started, I will post some flow numbers we get.

Next year we will see how fast I can go with a PT54 with a opened motor :)

Sorry it took me a while to reply.

Cost of sleeving my block was around $90. You have to take a lot of meat out of the block to get the sleeve in it. Mine was a low mile car and I wanted to maintain matching #'s so I took the chance. I was warned of problems with it but I never had the first issue. I ran it hard into the mid 10's for 3 seasons with the sleeved block before I sold the car and it's still alive and cruising on weekends.

New best time

I got out to Pittsburgh Raceway Park for the last TNT session of the year. I put down my best time yet. It was not a 10 sec pass but I'm happy, and I did it without hurting the car :) here is my pass on 29# of boost.

60’ *** 1.579
330 *** 4.569
1/8 *** 7.111
MPH *** 96.61
1000’ ***9.318
¼ *** 11.202
MPH *** 119.45

Kevin what was your highest boost level. PM me if you like.
I really do not know. My gauge only goes to 30psi. I would keep turning it up till it had a little knock, then back it off some. My guesstimate is around 31-32.

I'm going to upgrade my rear end with axles and a girdled cover, new injectors and a second fuel pump, and put some skinnies on it. Then turn up the boost a little more. Hopefully I can put down a little better times. I am very happy so far!

I had to do the axles this year. Earlier this year, I had one brake at the line. The Moser 28 spline replacements work great. Next year I am going to try skinnies too.

As far as my engine goes, I have a everything lined up and should be completed around Feburary. I am using my block, girdle, steel crank, forged pistons, any cam that will make power around 6000 rpm and stock rods. My heads and intake are going to my buddy's shop this week to get one bad ass port job. I am hoping for mid tens next year ;)
