Mystery wires under dash

Found these just dangling not connected to anything while I had the glove box door removed.

There's 2 male plugs, one is a black plastic plug with an orange wire that is always live, and one brown plastic plug with a grey wire...I didn't test it but I'd guess it's live when the lamps are on.

The black male plug with the orange wire has another black male plug plugged into it, also with an orange wire.

I'm going to tape them up if they're not needed....but wondering what are they supposed to go to?

the orange wire w/black plug is the juction spot for the dome light positive circuit.

the grey wire with brown plug is the connector thats used if your car was a limited for that cool lighting in the dash bezel above the glove box....

no,on limited regals,the dash bezel lights up where it says regal/buick....pretty cool option.

He's not kidding...my brother has an '87 Regal Limited...the plaque there above the glovebox has a little blue light that goes around the plaque about 1/4 inch from the edges that glows a very soft blue when you turn on the lights. His opera lights on the Landou top does the same thing. The plaque with the blue light looks so damn cool that I want to do the same thing to my '87 Grand National, but just don't want to alter the originality. Hmmm...I could always switch back...but it really looks slick.

Ok, I never knew there was a light up Limited emblem option on the dash of Limited Regals.

Also you mentioned the orange was the positive junction for the dome lamp circuit....how did this conenct? Was it for the opera lamps on limiteds?

I thought it was standard with the Limiteds and not available on the other Regals.

My fathers Buick Park Avenue (Electra 225) had an inverter and flourescent lighting on the Park Avenue plaque.

That would be a cool option to make happen on the regular Regal black/white lettering dash plaques, if in fact it could be done.

I'll have to dig mine up someday and see how they're made it isn't on my car anymore got some gauges there.

Not much you could do with a GN one.

its just a block to add anymore circuits thats needed...looks like its hooked up to me??

I honestly don't know, GNBRETT. I only found out about this blue light when my brother brought his '87 Limited Regal down to show me at night. I wonder myself if it was on all Regals or just Limiteds. I think I remember seeing some of the guys here on the forum with a T Limited that had this on their dash. Man, you should see it at night...soft, blue glow, reminds me of neon. Looks so classy. My late Dad's '80 Buick Park Avenue had the same thing, with blue lights on the posts between the front and rear doors. I wonder if I could put this blue light plaque on my '87 GN? I'll have to check to see if the wiring is there like the previous picture shows. I did see some of these for sale on eBay recently.

I bought one of those light up emblems off Ebay once but never hooked it up. Is it hard to remove the old one and install the new one?

yes,hard.but do-able.....unbolts from rear...

The thin bolts to the plaque is accessable up through the glove box door opening..best to put the door in the full down position and get at the bolts looking up in the door opening. Four plastic pins are from the plaque through the dash, use a deep well socket, 1/4 drive. Be careful not to snag or unhook the wires and crap in there. It's best to lose some weight to get small hands for the job.
