Need a fuel pump

Back story:

Went to start the car for the first time today and when I turned the key on I thought the fuel pump was really quite. Then when I checked and had no fuel pressure I knew something wasnt right. Started checking power and grounds and I found the power wire just hanging so I wired it all back up but now I just started blowing fuses. Something just wasnt right so I dropped the tank to check is maybe a wire grounded out inside. Once I pulled the sending unit out something just didnt look right and thats when I realized their was no fuel pump...The previous owner that I speak so highly of must of had an external fuel pump because where the pump sits in the hanger was just a rubber hose. Would have been nice for this guy to have told me this but he wasnt much for being upfront and honest so heres my problem...

I need a fuel pump for my 87. Its basically stock and I plan on driving it daily with some track time. Id say at the very fastest I would ever go would be to break into the 11's but I know thats down the road. I was looking at the walbro 340 but am open to other options and most importantly, testimonials. G-Body's sells a fuel pump and hotwire kit for $175 so I think thats the kit thats first inline in my head.
 
Your going to get all kinds of opinions on a fuel pump. Seems the most popular is the Deutshworks that G Body sells, then the Aeromotive Stealth, Reds XP, etc,etc..... and the last on the list is the Walbro. Walbro got a bad rap from the Turbo Buick community from failure. So fellow TB owners are a little gun shy. I can say I just previously bought a pump and went with the Racetronix Walbro and stainless steel sending unit. Racetronix assured me the Walbro unit was not the same units that were failing, so I purchased one. So far does just what I need it to. Plus the sending unit is a siperior piece.
 
I would go a step further and say that there was indeed some defective Walbro pumps from various vendors, but Walbro had a change of management and offered a free exchange for a new pump with new manufacturing methods to replace the "109" pumps produced within a certain time period. Like bogie says above, lots of opinions out there on pumps.
 
How about replacing pump with same external pump?
I dont need/want an external pump due to the car being a daily driver. Also I hear alot of complaints about external pumps being loud and annoying. Plus I cant ask the PO what he had in their because lets just say were not on speaking terms...
 
I would go with the DW from Racetronix or Nick Micale........ 3 yr warranty

Most of the TR senders are in very bad shape so perhaps you may consider a new SS sender with upgraded wiring to avoid any headaches (i.e. melted motor):



Add our HW harness with 10Ga Wire here:
 
^^ This is exactly what I bought from Racetronix and have been trouble free. VERY nice parts and harness is also superior like said above.
 
The white top pump is a 307 correct ?
you could spec a 340 for a little safety in capacity down the road.
The new sending units are top quality, just be careful with the ground wire solder joint, it can pop off the sender, but you can re-solder it

The white-top pumps are GSS294M 255LPH HP units.

Whats the difference between the 307 and 340...Also Racetronix which one do you sell
 
I have the G7 255 pump and sender. That sending unit is gorgeous. I wouldn't even think about buying the Walbro without the sender. The Walbro had an issue awhile ago but they are good now. It is the easiest replacement performance pump out there. Get the Hotwire kit too.

The Walbro model we sold never had the 'issue'.
 
What exactly was the "issue"
I have two right now that sprayed fuel from the bypass port, Marine Tex works well in gasoline by the way, epoxied both of them shut and now I have steady fuel pressure.

I love the new stainless sending unit, nice pc guys !
