Need advice!! Should I buy this GN? *urgent*

Well guys, I just came across an '84 GN with leather seats! The guy wants $3500. The engine turns over but will not start, and I can see some rust on the rear wheel wells from the pictures. It has t-tops as well, and apparently was kept in a garage - but the rust is making me think different.

I'd have to spend at least another $700 to get it home (trailer).

Should I go ahead and look at it? I think it's a pretty good deal even if it needs a new motor and paint job. I don't have the money for it right now (just finished my Commercial Pilot course) but what the heck, it'll likely be an investment in the future.

Honestly, I think I'd rather have a Turbo Regal, rather than a GN - as crazy as that sounds. I love GN's, but there's something about the T-types that win me over slightly.

Look for an 86-87 model year. They are the desirable years. 84-85 are the "hot air" cars (no intercooler) and its not cheap to get them to perform on the cold air cars level. You can find low milage great shape hot air cars for $5000-6000 without too much trouble. Spend a little extra and get a cold air car, you'll be happy you did.

Honestly due what your heart tells you. But keep in mind just like
BLACK6PACK said, the 86-87 are more desirable and are the best bang for the buck for future investment etc.

RUST is also an issue, due to you not seeing the car in person, I would not risk buying it, you might be very disappointed. Get detailed pictures!

Unless you seen detailed pictures of the undercarriage, wheel wheels, quarter panels, fenders etc. and run a CARFAX I wouldn't risk it..... Do you homework, then make a sound decision, don't rush it. :wink:

Thanks again guys. I haven't really stepped foot into the turbo market (until today), as you can tell. I am going to pass on it, that gives me time to start my flying job, save some money and keep an eye out for 'the one'.
They are just so hard to find up here, north of the border. I may have to locate one down there and drive it home. Not sure how to go about customs but it can't be too bad.

Yeah I just sold my 87 gn that was in pretty good shape with a built engine for 5,500. They are out there! You just got to look and be patient.

I haven't seen any that qualify in that price range in So Cal for quite a while. The last one I can think of in that price range was bought by Nailheadpowered over a year ago. I would say that $7500 and up for something that's not a high mileage POS is more do-able.

From what I can see in the pictures those lier siegler seats are MINT...Those alone are worth top $$$$
