Need help to remove oil pan

I want to replace my pickup screen while changing head gaskets, can someone give me the basic procedure to remove the oil pan and change the screen on a TTA? I read that it is needed to lift the engine

If you are replacing head gaskets also do yourself a favor and pull the engine. If you don't you will do twice the work and lower quality job.

I would but I really don't have the garage space, cherry picker, or engine stand.. I'll have to take my chances this time, but thanks for the advice!

Then you have to get and release both motor mounts, and raise the engine up a little. If you rotate the crank where the 1/2 rods are up, you will gain additional clearance on the front of the pan. And you can pull the pan.

The higher you have the motor, the easier it is. Watch the windage tray and the oil pickup.

Get the car up as high as possible...the higher the better...big ramps work good. 1st you need to undo a few items in the engine compartment...fuel lines, wire harness on driver side needs to be unbolted from the valve cover and raised up, remove exhaust crossover, torque converter cover, starter if you want (helps). place a piece of plywood under the pan (not over the drain plug) and support with a floor jack...lossen motor mount bolts...adjust jack as needed to pull the bolts. Next raise the jack while making sure nothing up top is getting stuck on the anything. once the motor mounts are far enough apart place a small piece of 2x4 between the mounts and then slowly lower the motor back down. This will keep it up high enough to get to the bolts and remove the pan...like Razor said if you rotate the motor some you will gain a little more clearance on the front of the pan. Now would also be a good time to replace the rear seal if it hasn't been done yet. I have done this twice now and it isn't that bad.

Yup. I have placed a 4x4 under the balancer when a cherry picker wasnt around.

The coilpack is the only worry. But if you have the upper assembly off becuase you pulled the heads, then nothing is in the way.

oh yeah forgot, you need to unbolt the IC bracket as well before jacking up the motor.

Some hard learned advice. If you get the engine high enough the bracket at the wiper motor will crack the plastic cover. The supplement manual advices removing said wiper motor. Good luck with your project.

My advice would be that if you aren't having problems with your oil pressure to just leave well enough alone. Just my oppinion.
