Summit SUM-630802 - Summit Glasspack Mufflers - summitracing.com

They are not necessarly resonators: they are glass pack mufflers.

I need something to shut up the drone of my Flowmasters while I make a 70 mile trip to Missouri.

I plan on inserting them on the ends of my tail pipes. How well you think they will shut up the droning so i can drive the car cross country?

I'm strapped for time so i can't have them permanently installed.

Take the flowcrappers off, and get yourself a pair of Magna-Flow mufflers. Low restriction, and good tone. Cheap, too.

Sure, if you are willing to donate the mufflers.

Let me break it down....

As of right now I am moving and can't afford to do any work to the car except stuff that HAS to be done....

Plus I plan to have the whole exhaust replaced in the future so i see no reason to blow $120 + on a new pair of mufflers when I plan to go to a single 3 inch exhaust in the future...so I am saving for it.

The car drones at 2200 rpms which is about 70 mph, meaning on the interstate it's gonna drive me crazy.

I just want something cheap and easy to quiet down the drone long enough to make it across the states.

After we get ourselves a house and are settled in and I finally save up enough I'll look into replacing the entire exhaust.

The drone is a resonance thing. Installing the glass packs will probably not help much at all. If driving across country, just install the cat converter. THAT will reduce the drone. I have tested MANY, MANY different systems out there. Installing a muffler in place of the cat, will do almost NOTHING. The design of the system needs to cancel the drone out. The BEST (albeit VERY expensive) is to install two straight through mufflers under the rear seat (traditional location) and then have a cross flow, straight through, muffler installed behind the rear axle. (stock location) ANY single 3" exhaust will be AWFUL, in regards to drone. It's physics. There is a thread on here about the three muffler system. TurboBob recentley installed one. Good pictures. Do a search.
Just install the stock cat for your trip. It WILL help better than the glass packs, I think.

Ok, just thought I'd ask....

I tried it once years ago on a truck I had...single exhaust with cat and Flowmaster....thing droned at 2k....

For ****s and giggles I shoved a glass pack (an old one) in the end of the tail pipe. It immediatley eliminated the drone at all rpms.

So I figured maybe it would work here, just thought I'd ask if anyone has tried it...

So Cal I'm getting stationed in Missouri, and driving faster....well lets say I'm all for arriving in one piece, no tickets and no more deaf than I already am.

Simple solution:D

Ehh....can't be driving and wearing those, have to listen to any traffic around me....like fire trucks and ambulances.

I wouldn't want to log on here and someone be unhappy with me b/c their relative died b/c I didn't get out of the way for the ambulance b/c I had my foamies in.

It will probably be a temp. solution, but trust me, if you think it's loud and drones now, wait till you put a single exhaust on there!!!

You can still listen to music and hear sirens with ear plugs.

Drive with your foot resting slightly on the brake. That will unlock the converter and raise your RPMs just enough to reduce the drone.

Just drive it and pretend it don't bother you, that would be the cheapest and easiest way to handle this. It could be worse like....hearing a carload of kids the whole way!!
