Who carries the 4-core radiators for our cars? Anybody know of a place to have new oil cooler end tanks put in? TIA

ArizonaGN has 3 core radiators. You can either send them yours to modify or you can buy one outright. And they do have the oilcooler like the stock radiator.

4 Core Radiator

I had one built for me by Culpepper Radiator in Portsmouth, VA.
Nice work at a good price.

I don't know why you need a four row radiator for a TR. I know they don't have an oil cooler, but I put in an F body radiator and the car never ran so cool with the AC engaged.

i agree, that radiator works great, even better with the 75.00 ramchargers dual fan kit...

if you know someone who works at napa, the radiator can be purchased for right at 100.00

then get a external oil cooler if you really feel the need for it

$100? That's a steal Bryan. Of course, I use the limited junkyard model I stuff down my pants. :D

I had a 4 core in my GN for awhile, man That thing weighed a ton.
I had problems with space when I installed my V-2 and Spal fans.
I went to a Monte SS radiator, now back to a stocker, Thanks Otto...

If I had it to do again I'd go with the F body model.

Somebody help me out here. What F-body radiator works in our cars? What mods do you have to make? Do you still need the external oil cooler? Anybody make endtanks for our rads? I would like to keep my setup stock appearing. I do know that at the Nationals in 2002 I was waiting in traffic at that Buger King light and my scanmaster hit 245 degrees and started blinking "HOT" Scared me enough to run the light and get some 60mph air going through the system. I would think a three core would have made it worse.

LOL,
I wondered how you got the big items out. I guess they call you Mr. DiCarlo when you come across a couple of aluminum brake drums and a bumper support....;)

The "F-body" radiator is the one used with the 91 or so Z28 Camaros...all aluminum, without the oil cooler. It is basically a drop in replacement.

As far as the oil cooler, many are not running them, while others are running an external cooler, similar to running an external tranny cooler.

HTH.

I would think a three core would have made it worse.
That would be true of the number of rows had any effect on heat transfer. But since there is nothing in the world of heat transfer that says "more rows is better", then the statement should read "a bad three core would have made it worse".
The size of the tubes in each row, the material, number of fins, and fin arrangement all effect the heat transfer. It is entirely possible that having four rows of tubes could restrict air flow through the radiator, and make the radiator LESS effective than a similar unit with three rows of tubes. The "F" body radiator has been thoroughly flogged, and found to be a cheap, effective replacament for the stock Buick rad. There are other good replacements, too, and you can use the "Search" function on this board to find them discussed in detail.

If you look hard, you can see my Permacool combination trans/motor oil cooler in this picture. It costs about $100. It requires getting longer oil lines made up to hook it up. New hoses cost me about $45 with NPT fitting ends that attach to cooler. With the F-body radiator, runs super cool in the summer, at all speeds, even with the AC blowin'. ;)

MR. DICARLO :p

Aluminum has far better heat dispersion than copper/brass.
If you pop the hood on almost any car these days you will find an aluminum core radiator. Some of the benefits are the fact that you can use fewer cores and get the same or better heat dispersion. Fact also that with a 4 row you actually starve the 2 center rows for air flow. You might increase your flow with more cores, but the amount of surface area exposed to air is much less.

Aluminum actually conducts heat about half as well as copper. The difference is made up in technology. For instance you can make a radiator with larger tubes (which is a better design) and it will be significantly lighter than copper. It will cool with less cores, but only because of the tube size. If you made a radiator with the same tube size out of copper it would weigh a ton. It's kinda like coolant. Really doesn't help "cool" at all. HTH
