Been complileing parts for my 85 GNX lookalike what do you think..

built 109 short block with .030 TRW fp,billet mains,all arp bolts,hv front cover
218/212 ductile roller cam with stock chain and tensioner
Champion Irons with matching intake
Hemco plenum
LT 72 P trim with .63 housing
83 lb injectors
ME 16 pos chip with Translator and lt1 maf

I still need to get my 3.5 in downpipe and Stainless headers.Ive got a Art Carr trans and 4200 nlu converter for now but Im going to be getting one of Bruces 4k$ trannys and converters after I get it up and running,or should I go th400.

Anyone here run a LT 72 turbo and if so how do you like it and whats it run like?? What kind of headers should I get?? Leaning toward ATRs and I know ill also need a double pumper. This will be a street/strip car used mainly for street racing about 3000 miles a yaer,MAYBE.Any suggestions?????
 
And roller rockers T&D 1.65 I beleive. ANY help will be greatly appreciated.Thanks
 
sounds like overkill and gonna be a bitch to fine tune. all this work and you use the stock chain.

Ive never tuned one of these cars so im in for a steep learning curve. If I cant ill just pay someone else too. I have Directscan and a scanmaster and a knock gauge so MAYBE I can. Anyone else???:cool: I was told that aftermarket chains can cause false knock so ill use the stocker.Alot of people have gone really fast with them. Also thinking about just going with a 3 in ATR downpipe as its stainless.Any more suggestion???HELP ME!!!
 
to get full advantage of the ported irons get ATR's 1 1/2 primary headers. they look sweet too.

i run a 72 bb with a 224/224 roller and 95 lb injectors. but with a fast and last time out i had ported irons and ran 10:50s with 27 lbs of boost. you will want about a 500 rpm lower stall converter and maybe a transbrake.
 
Just ordered my ATR headers and Houston 3.5 downpipe. The only reason im using the Art Carr convertor is that it came with the car. Maybe itll work ok...I think the recommended stall for a 72 is 3800, since youve got a bb turbo you could probably get away with less.Limit said they didnt offer a 72 bb so I just got a regular turbo.Why would I need a transbrake???:confused:
 
JUst changed my order to MER. Should I go double pumper or just one huge external pump with a sumped tank??? Remember id like to drive this car on the street sometime.
 
Good choice on the MER. Steve knows his stuff and should get you tuned up. I would say the HP level you should expect will be in the low 600 RWHP easily, but you will have to run some boost. You can run the stock tank but you have to keep fuel in it. Screw the knock sensor and run nothing but C-16 in it, if you are tuning and watching knock, you are already damaging the motor, you just won't detonate it with C-16, you will feel the power fall off first. Run a good chain. Get into a 70 GTQ, you will need about 3400 to spool it on a brake. No, you don't need a brake, but why not? I would go into the 400 trans and call it a day. That car will be a handfull and you won't get on it on the street. I run ATR headers on mine, but run a FAST.

P.S. take the Hemco and toss it in the trash can. Run a PTE plenum and power plate.
 
Whats wrong with the Hemco?? I bought it used and spent hours polishing it,be a shame to take it off:( Ive also got a stocker and a pp I could use.On advice from another board member im gonna go with the 400 with a brake.Thanks Mark :) All this stuff is new so im not going to be changing turbos until I break mine.

Ted sounds like your haulin ass,hope to be as fast as you. Youve given me alot of hope.600rwhp in my wettest dream:) Why do you say the stock chain isnt good????

And ill be running a ps intercooler with 2.5 piping,3 in looks to be too much hassle.

Anyone out their with a double pumper or complete fuel system they want to get rid of???

Sounds like a potential 9 second ride to me once it all comes together. Its interesting how some call it overkill. I call it going very fast with a lot of class. Turbo Buick!
 
That ME-R doesnt use the O2.. so an EGT will be needed. Roy's car went 9.63 with a 70 turbo, champion irons, and an ME-R. They use a T400 and a brake. But its alot bout cam and converter choices. This will usually make or brake the combo.

You've built a Ninja Death :D combo.. things happen really fast at high power levels..

One thing for sure tho..will be fun driving. And will be in the 10's for sure. Start building a spare bullet..

That 3.5 will not work with atr headers
I KNOW THIS FOR A FACT !!!!!!!!!
I had to cut into my 3.5 about 1.25 inches and modify it.so now its smaller where it goes past headers than my old 3"
It still has a larger transition than my 3" where it comes out of turbo. however its a good bit smaller now.
 
So should I just go with the 3 in DP then???THDPs are on backorder so I can still change. Already ordered my double pumper.So now the only thing I need is a th400 with a brake and a convertor. I cant wait to get this car on the road.Well over $20k invested in performance parts and full restoration and the only time ive driven it is when I bought (about 1 mile) Almost there though,cant wait:cool:
 
Yes definitley buy the 3" i wish someone had warned me before i bought mine. i had already sold my 3" before i realized it would take so much cutting and welding.

After talking to Chris at CK ive decided to go with an AOD with a brake and 3200-3400 stall.And an ATR 3 in DP. Ive also ordered an Innovative WB and VDO egt gauge.Now all I need is one of Julio's ,AKA Razor,alky kits and ill be in buisness.

Dont worry Julio,im already starting to build my spare shortblock:D


Goal is one 9 second timeslip and then detune for reliability. Ill post back here when I get it all together.

All this is going in my 85 GN T Top GNX lookalike.And when I say lookalike I mean it has everthing that 2nastybuick's GNX replica has,everything.It should be running by the end of the month,hopefully.

The cage will be NHRA legal for faster than 9.99 in the 1/4.And itll retain all amenties like ac,pw,etc with leather interior(Jax kicks ass!!!!!) and a cd player.Gonna spend alot of time on the dyno as well to make sure I have a safe,maximized tune.I have to get my special MER chip to dyno though.

New plan is to have a street driven,full on race car.:)

Ive been workin on this car for 2 year's and it is finally coming together after many,many,many hurdles :)

broke1, let us know what happens, for i have the same turbo and want to know how it performs, plus i have a similar combo except i have gn1r's
 
I wouldnt worry about the 72 GTQ performing well.Fastest stock block car at BG ran one(9.40's).I think it's Roy Garcia or Laz.
