Just looking for some tips/tricks to using the progressive SMC Alky Kit. I have never used alky before so I need the low down. I will NOT be using it till I get a new chip from Eric at Turbo Tweak. All my info is in my sig, so any settings or whatever would be greatly appreciated:) Also, does everyone use a 50% water to 50% Denatured alcohol in these kits?
 
All I have ever used in my SMC alky kit has been denatured alcohol. I would not delute it with water..I have run 25lbs of boost with no knock and haven't tried to go higher though I probably could..Remember to put some type of lube in with the denatured alcohol to try to keep the pump alive if it is the kit with the pump in the bottle. I just squirt some WD-40 in the bottle for a few seconds but others put in some stuff called Klotz...Eric just burnt me an alcohol chip for my new combo and added a bit more fuel at WOT then he would if I had an alkycontrol kit.

My pump is a stand alone and not mounted in the tank. It says in the directions NOT to add any type of lube to the pump. Kit was bought new in 2008, I bought it off the forums here. I will go with 100% denatured alcohol then. Any advice for setting the box parameters?
 
I use straight methanol; much cheaper than denatured if you can find it. I get it 5 gal at a time & that lasts me 6 mo or more. As for tuning I set my low side on about 6# 7 maxed out the high side & tweak it from there. have it kick-on just before knock,, I have so fat left high side alone as I am still fine-tuning. But I am NO guru to alky so if you find better advice (* I'm sure you will :smile:) try it...

Got my Alky chip in, set the Alky to come in at 12lbs and pump is full speed at 24lbs. Plugs gapped at .035 tight and as I roll on the throttle i get anywhere from 1.2-1.6 KR that shows up for a split second and goes away and show no KR at all for the rest of the pull. Should I be concerned about it? Plugs look good and the fuel pressure is set to 43psi line off and rises to roughly 64psi under full boost.

Your pretty close but slightly off on the fuel pressure so keep an eye on it making sure it's not slightly dropping off from a pump getting lazy..Could just be the gauge a little off. 24lbs of boost + 43lbs base fuel pressure equals 67....I have my plugs gapped around .029 at .035 I would break up at full throttle..As far as the knock if you are rolling into the throttle and seeing it try having the alky come on a little sooner around 10 lbs or maybe leave it 12lbs and turn up the pump speed a bit...Knock is always a concern and the more power you make the more damaging it becomes..Try to tune it out!!
