New Trucks

Well I am in the market for a new pick-up truck. I had an 04 Silverado 1500 and loved it. Unfortunately, I sold it. So here I am again, looking for the next truck.

Here is what I am looking at

2007 GMC Sierra 1500 Extended Cab or Crew Cab (not sure yet) regular bed.

active fuel management and flex fuel option.

5.3 V-8 w/ 315hp 338tq.


Tell me what you guys think.

Before I forget, Turbo diesel is out due to the 40K+ price tag, or else I'd buy one!!!

Depreciation

Is there a reason it has to be new? If you are wanting a Diesel why not get a few year old one and let someone else shoulder the depreciation? I haven't bought new since '98 and probably won't ever buy new again. Lots of nice lease returns and reposessed vehicles to chose from. Just have to chase them down and reap the savings.

These days you can get a warranty on just about anything a few years old. You might even be able to extend the factory warranty for a price.

As fas as the warranty deal, there is alot of fine print when it comes to that. I have had problems with "factory" warranty's in the past. Its not something I want to deal with again. Plus new GM vehicles come with a 5 year 100k mile.

In all actuality, I really don't need the Turbo diesel. I don't tow the car all the time, nor do I have anything heavy enough to pull or tow. Plus the oil changes can get $$$$.

Chevy all the way for me!! I still drive my Supercharged 97 Silverado everyday.

The new GMC's look better than the new Chevy's in my opinion. The 08 Super Duty Fords are nice too, just does not look like fun under the hood of those things.

Thats why I want to go back to GM. I have an Acura car right now...its nice but there is no room.

I agree, I like the grill on the GMC better. Dont get me wrong the Chevy is nice too.

I've heard that there are a lot of problems with the new toyotas.

My brother just bought a 2002 f350 king cab diesel with 70k on it for $14k. Its been well taken car of and if he takes care of it, it should last a few hundred thousand miles more.

I'm not sure how the new body style 5.3s compare to the older (99-06) bodied 5.3s, but I wouldnt buy another truck with a 5.3. Ive got a 99 GMC ext cab Z with the 5.3 and it is absolutely gutless stock. I had to spend $400 or so for a computer tune. I would highly recommend stepping up to the 6.0 L vortec max.

my 5.3 is far from gutless,Ive pulled past plenty of diesels in the mountains pulling my camper take the cats off if you don't have inspections,they choke this engine.get some o2 simulators or move the down stream o2's out of the exhaust stream,k&N,flobie exhaust system

the first summer i pulled my camper to daytona and I did not realize how fast i was going until i passed a greyhound buss and it sucked all the windows out the airestream on the right side

if i had to tow more weight,i would get a ford or dodge diesel

I agree, I like the grill on the GMC better. Dont get me wrong the Chevy is nice too.

Also the rear flares on the beds of the Chevys look terrible (too much) compared to the GMC's. Certain trim models of the Chevy I can stand. Then again I didn't like the last body style front end of the Chevys when they first came out and now I own one. Maybe these will grow on me too, but if I was to buy one today I would be going to the GMC dealer.

If you are taller than 6'2" then the head room in the new Tundras probably won't work for you. They are nice trucks too.

Definately get Chevy or GMC. I love my 1500 and whoever said it was gutless is wrong...Maybe you got one of the first built? Mine gets 19.5 MPG on the highway at 16 in town and plenty of power to tow an open trailer.

I would shy away from the Toyota's as they are wiping cams left and right. My mom had a Ford Expedition with the 5.4 and it was gutless and got 12 MPG...Sold it at 70k as the electrical system was going to heck. Nothing like driving down the road and the horn honking or the windshield wipers wiping. It was quite comical..

I have a White 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 Ex Cab. I love it! But? Could I swap my 5.3 w/ a New Duramax Diesel motor? lol :biggrin:

I bought a new 2006 chevy silverado and i love it. it's got the all-alum 5.3 H.O. and for a extended cab Z-71 it will move on.

It get 16 on average around town and out on the highway i have got average of 19.8-20 MPG with it.

Towing my buick with a 16FT all steel flat deck trailor it got 14 MPG and i couldn't tell it was back there.

it's more of a truck than my old 94 GMC k2500 5.7 TBI.


if i was you get the 07 silverado classic they look like the 06's the new truck has to grow on me for a bit.
