I was asked to remove my GoPro last time I was at the track and I thought it was a local thing or they had a couple come off. I called the track owner today and he stated it came to an NHRA rule. Trackside filming is ok, but not on the car. I didn't ask about in the car, but that'd be harder to police anyway. I'm guessing most tracks don't enforce this yet. My local track is a real stickler for the rules. He did apologize but stated that it came from above.

Thoughts? Heard of this yet?

What probably happened is one fell off and shattered into pieces......pieces that are to find scattered all over the track....pieces that can get stuck in your tire at high speeds and cause havoc.

Think you would be ok if it's solidly mounted inside.

I read the rule too.

SECTION 20: GENERAL REGULATIONS, SUPPORT GROUP: 9, 9:15 CAMERAS (Page 38) (To be added after 9:14 WARM-UPS)
Cameras permitted. May not be intentionally directed at the racer in the other lane without NHRA permission. Video may not be transmitted in any means or manner without NHRA permission. Incident video may not be transmitted under any circumstances. No video monitors permitted in or on the car. Video may not be used in any way to determine track position in real time. Must be securely attached to the vehicle with appropriate fasteners. May not be attached with suction cups, wires ties, hose clamps etc.. All mounting brackets, associated fasteners, hardware, etc. from the camera to the vehicle attachment point must be metal, no plastic or non-metallic components permitted. Attachment to the driver, the driver’s helmet or the steering wheel prohibited.

I think the part that is in red is what the track operator is referring to.

In the car was ok last I knew. Outside was ok if the mounting was through bolts. No suction cups though.

And when all the local tracks are ghost towns they will wonder why

ya I think they are getting carried away. 9 sec cars have a lot of new rules !! I am debating keeping my Mazda/Buick. Wanted to do the halo and a rear end BUT they keep on adding more "stuff"

I've always wondered about the NHRA when it comes to test and tunes and non NHRA events. Why would the rules apply when it's not an official event?

from what I understand NHRA rules apply even at a track rental. 9 sec drivers now need jacket/pants/gloves .... dunno about shoes to. Ill find out more when I get up to the track.

I think the strict following of the rules even on track rentals relate all back to insurance im sure. It sucks but its all.cya-cover ya ass-now a days..

NHRA is coming out with a lot of new rules . :(

Why is it that perfectly good organizations suddenly feel the need to model themselves after our f'ed up federal system or the even more f'ed up United Nations? Thank God for the NRA and their sanity!

I can understand safety involvement.
I can understand cameras attached with suction cups on the exterior not permitted because of it falling off and leaving debris.
I can understand video rights belonging to the NHRA for an event.

I can understand after two passes faster than 11.49 at test and tune they tell me to park it because I won't put a cage in.

I can't understand some of the junk they let run down the track peeing fluids.
I can't understand letting people drive though the water box with street tires dragging all that fluid to the starting line.

I know, I know this is about the camera, sorry.

Mikey

by that rule, the mounts that were factory engineered for GoPro cameras aren't NHRA legal since they are made out of plastic. even the roll bar mounts, which by definition will be inside of the car and there is no threat of any part of the camera or it's mount falling on the track unless the car is upside down, in which case they have a whole lot more to clean up than the pieces of a digital camera..

those mounts are good enough for every other sanctioning body in the world, but not for the NHRA...

It is pretty over-the-top.........

Fire Extinguishers are also no longer allowed in the cars !! I guess to many have gone off

Sure? Everything I see online for rules says it must be securely mounted and that's it?
