No forward gears

Hey guys,
My friend just bought an 87 GN that has reverse and no forward gears. You can shift from reverse to first with no resistance at all, and the linkage under the car is moving. The guy he bought it from doesn't know any history of the car, as far as I can tell, it's all stock. Also, it has tranny fluid in it, and it's not burnt. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreceiated.

sounds like a linkage problem.if all is well suspect a forward clutch or front planetary problem.
