No name gas stations vs. big name stations?

I've always wonder if the no name gas stations had as good of gas as the big name stations such as Amaco, Sunco, Exxon.......and so on? Is there any reason to pay more? Don't the cheap gas stations still have the same Fed standers to go by?

well i believe that they have regulations to go by, BUT i know that in terms of knock, i have found that if i use Sunoco gasoline (93), which is not imported, that i get no more than 1* knock. With smaller brand name gas places, running their 93 octane, and no other changes to the car, i have gotten as much as 5*. I just stick with Sunoco and don't worry about the price. I started to put the 94 in even though it is usually 10 cents more..

Main differences are the additives and detergents. The other thing is if the no name place gets less business than the name brand their supply will be sitting longer.
