Nothing blows out of my heater or a/c

OK, it's January, cold in NY, and I am not happy if it's under 85 degrees outside, and I need my heat. With the switch high or low, I don't hear anything (nothing blows out of the vents, defroster, etc.). I understand this can be a lot of things, but where do I start?

Start by checking the fuse... If it is OK, the check the connections on the blower motor under the hood. Clean them if necessary. WIth the switch on, tap the top of the blower motor with a wrench and see if it starts working. Motor may just be shot. You can take it out and bench test it. I have done this and it not work, then spin it by hand and it starts working. Jump start if you will.

If I am not mistaken, the hi/lo switch has two seperate "relays". One for the highest setting and one for the lower settings. If it is not working on any setting, then it is likely not the relay.

The one that is 25 amps and labeled A/C is fine. Any other I should check before I try anything else?

Also, where exactly is the blower moter located?

Blower motor is located on fiberglass AC box under hood. IF fan is running, and heat not directed that would prolly be a vaccum line problem.

Check with a test light to see if there is power to the fan. If so its the fan....easy fix.

If not, it may not be so easy. I believe there is a fusable link somewhere in the harness for the blower motor. I had one go out on a 79 malibu (same body) and it was behind the glove box.

Maybe someone with more exact knowledge than me can chime in.

Well, I smacked the blower moror and now it blows out fine (at least for the past two days). But it looks like I'll need a moror soon, because why would I have to tap it at all?

Well thankfully its an easy fix. They only cost about $15-$20 new.............so unless it was a loose electrical connection, I'd just replace it.

I will replace it ASAP, because now every day I have to keep hitting it to get it to work. Do you (or anyone else) know the part # off hand?

I'm not sure what kind of parts stores are in your area....... I did a quick search at www.autozone.com and their new part was $13.99

Not sure of the original GM part # I don't think they changed much over 10 years of G-bodys so there's prolly a ton of #s that interchange.

You shouldn't have any problem finding one.
