The other day I posted these scanmaster numbers and was told there
might be a possible vac leak.

I checked everyhose and sprayed carb cleaner everywhere with no indications.
Heres the first set I posted

AF = 05-06
L8 = 45
BAT = 13.9
INT = RANGED FROM 123 TO AROUND 133
BL = 146
MPH = 0.0
CLT = 170
ATS=57
r = 625 to 725 (all over the place)
TPS = .40 WOT = 4.38
IAC = 23 THRU 25
CC = would start around 08 and increment up to 255 and start over ?
MAL 0 0

Since then I changed the spark plug wires, and also adjusted the TCV cable because it was shifting way to early
Now the numbers seem a little worse.
Both the BL and IAC jumped up.

AF=05
L8=43-48
BAT=13.7
INT = 125-132
BL=150
MH=0.0
CLT 157
ATS=56
R=625
TPS=.40
IAC=30

Now the weird thing, while idling the car inidcated a CODE 24 ? ?
FAUTLY VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR. A broken spedometer cable ?
The car was sitting and idling in PARK.
Also it sounded as if the ECM or at least thats what I thought
made a few beeping sounds ?

Any suggestions
Still seems to be running rich to me
It smells of gas when running.
Thanks Steve

i hate chasing down leaks in these, the spray thing sometimes doesnt work good, youve went and hit a vac gauge to every vac line? or just pulled em, plugged em and tried to blow through? how about the vac block gasket?...big leaker or tb to doghouse.

them high numbers from your bl and int shows lean condition and leak from somewhere

How about O2 sensor. Mine was reading lean, but was actually rally fat and sluggish!!

yeah theres about 4 of these SM reading issues on here, hard to keep track
one the 02s looked fine and were cycling good

always cheap to replace 02 and get new numbers

I didnt check the vac block ?
That is the block on top where the hose's come out ?
I will try to check that also.
Everyone on this board leans heavily to a leak with the numbers I am posting.
I replaced the 02 sensor about 100 miles ago also
Ive been replacing too much stuff on this car and no results
Starting to really aggrivate me.
Thanks for the input though, I will check out the vac block also.
Big leaker ?
I guess there is a gasket underneath to replace ?
Thanks Stev

yeah i understand just like 90% of the other folks on here at one time.

the vac block gasket can get soaked with alot of oil being sucked up the big tube from the pcv

Spray around the TB behind the cable bracket where the rod goes into tb
the IAC gasket area

recheck all vac lines, pull each one, check your check valves, your hose's and lets hope you dont have pin hole in IC

just take deep breath man and start again...Mark H has a pessure tester he made on his site to slide over the turbo inlet and pressurize the system...that might help for sure

Does it idle rough? like a miss?
pull each injector clip one at a time with engine running and listen for change

go to home depot in plumbing section and get two rubber caps, rig up a milton on one (milton...air hose fitting) clamp milton cap on the turbo inlet and fill with 20#s of air and listen for leak... if leak somewhere but not sure then clamp the other cap down on outlet end of IC and fill air with gauge, make sure no loss.

reset PCM and get new numbers

Check the vac lines going to your charcol canister, under driverside headlight
pull the other lines one at a time, plug one end and blow other or put mityvac to it

pcv grommet is one to check
EGR solenoid also

get some gasket material from autozone and make a piece to slide under your vac block ontop of TB, tighten down so your blocking off all vac
start car and take note..if BL drops then your on track if not then its elsewhere.

you could have cracked header

theres a bunch of things to research always reset the ECM and make note

just ideas in no big order

it would be nice to fix this vac leak before you toss 60#rs and new chip which really is a must do

but its adding fuel bigtime to make up for the leak

i have a hard time believeing it to be a vac leak with rpm at 625. im thinkin maybe time for a turbotweak chip.

yeah id like to believe that also, he says its all stock but id be curious to make sure its stock chip and not some kenne bell xp 3000

either way hes adding fuel big time with 147 bl

I think it is stock
I am really not sure
I have only had the car a little over a year
Who knows what has really been done to the car

The chip on one side says
DELCO
TK
On the back side it says
JT8(B) AF01/P
Does that sound stock ?

The fuel pressure at the rail is 38 lbs with the vac line on

I think it drops to around 25 with the vac line off
but on it runs at 38 constantly with the vac line on
No doubt its dumping fuel, as I said in my previous posts
it really smells of gas while running.
Doesnt blow smoke, just stinks

Steve

Reading the replies I didnt do nearly a good enough job.
Will be more thorough this time. One step at a time
Thanks Steve

yeah steve you been washing cylinders, change your oil asap and you need to know what injectors you got before you order chip so it might be timeto shell out 3 hundee for the chip and 60% injectors
TurboTweak Home

where you located?

Would a cracked header make them run rich also ?
although there is no excessive noise under the hood or anything like that
the smell of gas is really at the back of the car where the exhaust is.
But I heard they are prone to cracking.
Thanks
Steve
