Howdy,

I'm putting together my cover from Frankg and I've run into major problems with the relief spring and valve. The valve will not go down the tunnel for it and it jams right up against the entrance of the tunnel. I'm afraid of forcing it down there since it feels stuck tight when I push on it. Anyone else have a simular problem? Finally what should the end clearance be for the oil pump, right now I'm just getting it together so I can do a good scrub on the block and get her painted and will be taking things apart again so I can prime it up. So when I check the pump, how much in the hole should the gears be to work with the stock replacement gasket?

Thanks,

I THINK the clearance is .002. I used the shim kit (a bunch of mylar (?) gaskets) from TA Performance. Even if you didn't want to use it, it would be good for figuring the amount of material to remove from the gear. I don't know how consistant gaskets are and also how much compression would change based on torque wrench variation.

Shouldn't have to force the piston, but if I recall it was a little tough to get in, had to be really square to the hole when getting it started. I kept fiddling with it and then it just slid in.

clearance

Actually the gears will stick out of the bore as most stock gaskets are .006.
tminer is right @ .002 end clearance.

make sure you dont have any burrs in the relief channel if so try a little emory cloth or fine sand paper to clean it out !

well crap! I got it going in with my fingers after checking for burs and such and finding none then it jammed just below the outer surface and it doesn't want to go anywhere without hammering it. What now?
