hey i was just wondering

how does the oil pump booster plate work and is it easy to install and most important does it work and is it worth it

thanks Anthony

I installed these on my previous 85 GN, 13 years ago, and my big block as well. They were fairly easy to install.

I really cannot attest to their effectiveness, but they used to be very popular. I am not sure they are used as often as they used to. I do not have them on either of the GN's I have now.

The booster plate helps restore the pumping pressure of a worn out oil pump. Over time, the gears push against the aluminum thrust plate (oil filter adapter) and where circular grooves in it, thus opening up the clearances inside the oil pump. Some oil pressure is lost. The booster plate adds a new flat machined surface here and oil pressure will come back up somewhat. If you have heavy wear in your bearings, the oil pressure will not increase with this plate.

thanks everyone guess i dont need it new oil pump and the surface was good as new no marks i was just wondering because the car has a real low hot idle oil pressure like 10 - 14 psi i was just looking for a little bit more pressure

thanks all Anthony

When I decided to take mine apart I had 8 psi hot at 55 mph and 0 psi hot at idle. The cam had worn a groove in the bottom of the cam bearings and the clearances above the cam were huge.
