I just pulled the oil pump apart to replace the leaking gasket. The drive gear with the shaft slid almost all the out of the timing cover. Is it normal for the drive gear to slide out? I also noticed grooves in the pump cover where the drive gear was rubbing. Going to recheck all the clearances. The motor is pretty fresh with not to much run time.
Thanks

Yes its normal for it to fall out. Make sure it didnt get a nick or gouge if it hit the floor. Get some plate glas or equiv and tape sand paper to it (220 and then 400) and sand the filter adapt in figure 8 motions until grooves are out...lube with wd40.

Do a search for oil mods...lots of info
