ok here are the bumps

i drops in the direct and fwd assembly as 1 ,i get this same situation i read about but now can not find

atsg book says should measure 4 and 1/8 inches from direct drum up to pump surface in case
i get like 4.575"


i remember the response being something like(not too important but is quite a diff)

so i am wondering what this person ever found was the issue or did they leave it alone and had no problems???


on the other hand , these teflon rings are fun i think i almost got them to come out of the grooves by themselves
i tried a practice run with a spare direct , not going like a expected
raitflmao

any help would be gratly appreciated

ok i found the post it was from Fred 86GN

sounds like same exact situation

my spacer is there in the fwd,my output shaft endplay is at .020"
and i have the selective spacer that sticks into the output shaft before the fwd drum

i am hoping Fred will see this and let me know how he made out

The operative word is "APPROX." 4-1/8", mine measured 4 1/2-5/8" and works fine. I use a band type piston ring compressor to resize the teflon rings after their installed.

P.S....

you need to leave them compressed about 30 min. or so.

I do the rings all by hand. Hand massaged. All by feel. As far as the drum measurement, you are fine. That dimension is so screwed up in them books. Just make sure when you get the od CS in it is a nice tight fit and you have "some" clearence in the for drum to CS and you will be fine. This is not a detremental part of this at all.

got it all in

well i kinda used Marks idea but probably down a level or 5 from a piston ring compresor LOL

but it worked,wont even mention what i did lol(or maybe not if they didnt seal right)

but i got the center suport in now just trying to get the 4th (is it) piston snap ring on the center suport

after this should be all set except to venture into the pump and VB only because i want em clean,

i am hoping all is ok, after reading how critical this aftermarket pump kits and all I am suprised its ok

i installed a .500 boost valve and 10 vein pump in it oh at least a few or more years ago Thanks to Joe B.

but now knowing more and having the know how to measure this stuff
i am afraid of what i will find

gotta go doublecheck on the clutch setup now and do some more reading in the sticky
think the tci kit came with 3 clutches, i pulled out 3 steels and 2 clutches
