The engine on my newly acquired heap - it does not run. Previous owner took it and tranny out and put engine on a pallet. I have the use of a cherry picker with engine leveler and a engine stand.

Feel free to laugh! :o I'm new at this stuff.

  1. Where do I attach the four chains?
  2. What type and size bolt do I use? (I am told I don't need grade 8)
  3. What type bolt do I use to attach to the arms (don't know right term) of the stand to the engine?
Thanks and let me have it!

I use a nylon type of sling with an eyelet on end and loop it under the intake.
Works better than a chain because I can move it rather easy.

boostingbuick's idea is the easiest but if you use a chain hook one end to the right front bracket that has loop in it. It's just behind the turbo mounted on the first intake bolt. The second place is on the left rear of the engine. Buick has designed a loop cast into the block itself. Attach the other end of the chain there. Go to Lowe's and buy two small "shackels" to help out.

I believe 8 x 1.25 are the correct bolts to mate it to the engine stand. I bought 3 inch long ones and a bunch of washers, but 3 inches was a tad excessive, by like and inch. :D

I'm interested in where you got the sling too..

......don't need it now but I can see where it would have worked. Good idea!
