Anybody have any tips on removing ALL the old cork gasket/shellac from a wrinkle finish valve cover w/o damaging the powder coat.... i would say i have 90-95% done but it seems theres small pieces stuck on.... i have scraped it all i can with non-marring plastic scrapers, was wondering if anyone had any secret tricks to removing them.... thanks in advance

Dremel tool with the brush attachment. Won't damage the valve cover either.

thanks- i was trying to think of what attachment i could use on the dremel...... i will have to go by the hardware store tomorrow.

i am ASSuming one of the nylon bristle brushes.

Get the brass or steel brush. I used the steel one. Cuts fast and doesn't damage the coating.

I have used the brass wire brush with great success.
Wears out faster but I have had good success cleaning aluminum and steel surfaces with it.
Key for me was "light pressure" (control) . . . . high rpm.

Be sure to observe the max rpm rating, AND wear safety glasses/face shield!
When the bristles come off at rpm, they can/will stick in your skin.

Had my old school set of M&A valve covers ground by my local machine shop on a large belt grinder. It took all of the gasket off, and in addition trued up the warped aluminum surfaces. :)
Just be careful not to remove too much material in the process.
