one quick question on cold air kits and smog

I am getting ready to add a cold air kit to my GN, 9 inch K&N behind the drivers side air dam. Is this smog legal or do i need to reinstall the stock air box everytime i smog it?

Air cleaner modifications are "Items not of concern, as long as required emissions control devices remain intact and are not affected". The IAT sensor is basically in the same location as the factory unit, so I suspect it will not be a problem.

So something like a "Big Mouth" cold air kit and non-stock solid MAF pipe would pass in Calif (LA county) ??

But a 3.5" LS1 MAF would not ?
I take it a stock 3" MAF is required to pass visual?? (assuming the mechanic is astute enough to know what "stock" is).

Am trying to get ready for a smog check, car's been inoperative and registration expired...

That's the way I interpret it in the smog check manual.
