Ok have a friend looking for one.. I know I know I have no friends  My set up is older than 99% of you guys so I have no idea what set ups are out there. He wont be using it a lot. Damm found a "ENGINE TILT" thing. Looks like something he can use with it.

If your "acquaintance" needs a limited use one, Harbor Freight has a pretty neat deal on one.

;)

Harbor freights engine lifts arent too bad as long as you get the two ton. Go as big as you can because that quoted weight capacity is with the arm all the way in, which never goes deep enough into the engine bay. The further you extend the arm, the weaker it is. Pep Boys sells one similar usually.

I have one and what I did was drilled a hole so the boom would extend a bit more.. that way you can pull the engine on a Buick.

Agree.. never buy the cheapest of anything :)

My dad did the same thing, and it placed too much load and folded the leg of the 1,5 ton onto the core support and header panel. Luckily it was above a junk donor car. Just besure you know the weight of what you are lifting, and be careful when its the eng and trans! ;)

IIIRC the"Big Red" one available at Harbor freight and or Northern is a good deal butteh boom doent go out far. Read the reviews on the site it has multiple complaints about that .

Well I only did the engine an trans once.. To much of a pain to me . Oh the heaviest engine in the world I had on there. 427Ford SOHC !! Even the engine stand was talkin to me!! HUGE AND HEAVY !!

The AC Delco one from oriellys reaches without drilling any new holes. I first bought a black one from advance auto & it didn't reach far enough.

that does look nice BUT they are not local to us.

I don't like the ones that break down to a small foot print. I have and ancient one like Grumpy, though I'm no where near his age. I can't even spell SOHC. (Super Old Hay-burning Car) I have used the break down kind on occasion and they just don't reach anywhere it needs to. My old....real old picker has never let me down. You all should see how I pulled my boat motor. I had to add 5 feet to the end of my boom AND add a hand crank wench to the top with a pulley and then added a secondary bridge to support it. Then slid it into the back of my pick up and used cargo straps to offset the extended boom. Strapped it to the tie Downs in the bed of the truck and left the front wheels of the hoist hang out the bed after removing the tail gate. I was a bit nervous pulling it out, but it worked great!
