just question for you all, Just changed my converter to a orange stripe, along with new filter and fluid. took the car out for a drive tonite and it felt bad, The shift from 1-2 felt like it was slipping/ not engaging without letting off and at higher speed around 70mph the rear wheels felt like they were breaking loose. I had no problems with my stock converter no tranny slippage good shifts and my car was going 12 flat at 117mph switched the converter to match the te-60 a bit better then the stock converter, any suggestions on what I should check before running the car hard, not in the mood to do another swap this weekend lol. Do I have to readjust anything or can I rid the shift blues with a shift kit?? I'm open for suggestions help please..

Jamie,

Perhaps during the swap the TV Cable got out of adjustment.

Also changing the converter sometimes requires adjustment of the TV cable as well.

This 1-2 slip that you mentioned is that at WOT or part-throttle ?

If it was at part throttle and you say you had to let off to get it to shift, then maybe the cable is a little tight and needs a couple clicks looser.

Without a pressure gauge, one method is to cruise at 25mph (40km/h) in 2nd, then go WOT. If the car downshifts into 3rd, you are in the window. then you can tighten the cable to where the car (and you) like it best but keep checking that it still downshifts.

reply , tranny cable adjustment???

the slip feeling is at wot , the car felt like it went into neutral or couldn't find 2nd gear as soon as I let off it found the gear and drove normally also when cruising at higher speed and punching it the car downshifted and pulled hard but something felt wrong the tires felt like they were spinning , might have been the tranny searching for a gear???? I'll try adjusting the cable as soon as I find out hoe to do it????

Make sure your tranny fluid is not low i had that happen to me. the trans would shift good then when i went wide open it would slip i had to let off then get back on it something told me to check the tranny fluid and sure as s!!!t it was almost 2 quarts to low, i topped it off while it was runing and rechecked it then i took a couple of short blasts up the street problem solved .. :D hope this helps...

My tranny is stock but with a CK 9x11 3600. As the car started getting quicker, IE low 12's, the tranny started sucking air. I had to fill it to the bend in the dipstick. About 1 qt extra.

thanks for the replies

I ended up swapping in my rebuilt tranny with a stock convertor, I think the 2nd gear was finished in the old 160000 mile tranny , must have done something right cause I went 11.49 @ 119 . with a 1.7 60ft I'm thinking about having the orange stripe taken apart and cleaned, I have a te60 and need the 3000 stall to get my times better. just a question but should I spend the cash on cleaning the orange stripe or look for another converter ? also do you think the 3000 stall is ok for the 60. Thanks again

You with the smaller converter 9.5 or 10 and you will love it:biggrin:
