I came into my office and notice the trash had not been emptied, and several other things the cleaning crew normally does.

Come to find out, Homeland Security busted their main office here in Dallas, and came and picked up all the workers Friday afternoon. Evidently they have been under surveillance for a while. Don't know any other details, but it took all of us be surprise.

Our cleaning people are under suspicion as well here at my college. For some reason computers keep disappearing on the weekends and there is never any forced entry and stuff just seems to get "magically" unlocked. lol.

Tax dollars at work! That's probably an everyday kind of thing too. The catch is that it most likely won't hit the news to let people know that there is work being done to make this a safer country. So HS will go on being criticized. Thankless job.

It shouldn't have surprised you. Guess who clean 80% of all
office buildings. That's right ask me how i know ? I own a cleaning company.

So, has some of the INS been integrated into the Homeland Security Act? I think this has ended up being an illegal immigrant thing.

I think US Customs and the INS basically merged under one agency Immigation and Customs Enforcement or ICE for short ( you know how us cops love acronyms). They are under the Dept of Homeland Security along with numerous other federal law enforcement agencies that used to be spread throughout the federal government.

My parents and I run a cleaning company. And this is why we do the work. You just can't trust hiring people. I was talking about this to my dad just the other day. In one of our new buldings there was a $100 dollar bill on the counter and a $10 dollar bill in the copier room. If we had employees in that building both those bills would have been gone. A major advantage when picking up new work is we do the work, so whatever happens affects us personally and not an employee who can just be replaced. There is still a few of us honest workers out there :D :D .

Heard on the radio that 1 in 4 government jobs is in "Homeland Security"

...think about that for a moment...

That's right--it ain't just your cleaning employees who are under surveillance...

You make a good point. I am very uncomfortable with parts of "The Patriot Act" that has been rammed down our throats. If your not sure what that is, do a word search on the web. It is kinda scary.

Big deal on tv

One of the news magazine programs featured this very thing last yr.. They had cameras all over the place, and caught several folks making off w/ office equipment...
As for the Patriot act... If you are not f@#%king around, you have nothing to worry about....

Under the Homeland Security Act the INS was integrated with US Customs to become US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

How many of us NEVER break any laws??
(I HAVE gotten a ticket for 40 in a 35 before)

How many of us break laws we don't even know we're breaking??? For all I know, I may be using illegal mouse traps in my garage? Or maybe kissing my wife on Temple Square is against the law? Who knows, there's stupider laws than these on the books, and I have NO clue who's watching, or worse--who's watching the WATCHERS...

Sorry, I DON'T like knowing I'm being spied on. That's why I take my boat out in the middle of great big lakes in the summer. They're gonna have to be using that BIG telescope in the sky to see what I'M doing...
;)

Paranoia is hell, ain't it!!!

:) Me, paranoid?

Paranoia
a tendency on the part of an individual or group toward excessive or irrational suspiciousness and distrustfulness of others

JMO, but it seems to me those doing all the surveillance are the paranoid ones!

(and MY suspiciousness and distrustfulness is well founded, thank you)

I'm done...
