hey guys got a question..

how soon does damage start happening when a TR overheats? my fan ground wire somehow broke apparently.. and i was stuck in traffic after a football game.. i turned it off within 30 seconds of the light coming on and jumpered the fan as soon as i could...

i heard someone mention heads warping and such.. for what its worth i had a meat thermometer in the car and i stuck it in the overflow tank, it read a little over 200*

should I be worried?

First I don't think the duration of your overheating was too significant. Good work getting it jumpered in traffic. :) Second, there are a lot of TRs running around down by you that regularly get over 200*. Not a great idea but they live in the short term at least. Finally, we have iron heads. Even aluminum heads need a lot more heat than your car experienced to start warping.

So to answer your question as to whether or not you should be worried. In a nutshell...no.

don't sweat it!

I was once stuck in traffic and coolant began to pour out of the overflow bottle. It took me about five minutes to get off the highway and by the time I shut it off it was at 280 degrees.
I eventually got it home and replaced the radiator (it was clogged) and have since put about 10,000 miles on the car and have no ill effects.

I pay A LOT more attention to the coolant gauge now.
