Paypal scam? probably

Take a look at this email. Im thinking scam but not sure how it works. This guy wants to buy a piece of surveying equipment I have. If he deposits money in my paypal account is there any way the funds could be returned/refunded?

1.Your PayPal full name.
2.Your PayPal Email Address.
3..Your phone number.

Once again ,I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping. I will have my pick-up agent come over as soon as you have receive the payment confirmation.

The entire email sounds bogus to me, but this last part is actually disturbing?

A marine engineer, and most other honest people, would most likely NOT send an "agent", but would have you ship the item. Shipping documents the transaction. A "agent" would make it easy to dispute the delivery.

I would not sell anything in this manner unless the agent paid in CASH! [And even that I would check to be sure it was real!]

Send that email to PayPal, see what kind of response you get...I am guessing that they tell you to run.

It certainly sounds fishy to me, especially the wording. I would advise against the transaction.

That aside, I wonder if there would be a way to handle a legitimate transaction securely in this manner.

There are escrow services that work thru ebay that will middle something like this, how portable is it?

Their friends son was located in Africa. They offered to pay with PayPal and offered me $230 more than I was asking. They have since not been replied to.

Craigslist is flush with this stuff. Seller beware! This is just the flip side of the absentee seller scheme. In that the seller in complicated circumstances is maybe a service person overseas or shipping out (or maybe is supposedly the out of state mother/widow of such person) in need of a quick deal and a money transfer to seal it.

Don't waste any more time on this dirtbag.

I say you waste a LOT more time and money...

Send him a response that you are OK with it...but are afraid of all the scams you have heard about and would like proof they are a real person, if they could please send you a picture holding a sign with the words 'I am we tar did' then you could feel safe..

Then just try and keep it going as long as possible!!
