I have a stock PCV setup with a check valve before the PCV, stock valley pan setup, I have big breathers on both valve covers and I get quite a bit of oil blowing out of the breathers under heavy accel...they smoke just a tad at idle as well...any cure for this? someone told me to get some breathers with tubes sticking out the sides of them and route some rubber hose to under the car...

Hey Don, hows it going? I would be taking a close look at that pcv set up because i would think it should eat up all the blow by @ idle. What check valve? Kirbans? Mine lasted about a month then stuck open. I replaced with a nice stainless steel industrial check valve and it works sweet now. If the pcv is not in the whole it will cause problems too. I've caught mine popped out and off to the side. I would pull the entire assembly and make sure the pcv is working and its not letting air blow back into the crankcase. Should flow one way and not the other. You know how it works.
On the oil sucking issue I did install a catch and its just incredible the oil this thing is catching. Its got to be the turbo drain. I have plans to relocate the drain tube to the side of the oil pan. I might try moving the pcv to the valve cover also. The valley pan gasket does not seem to block all the oil like I originally thought.

My up pipe to the throttle body pops off under boost 18-20 psi at times.Could this be because i dont have stock valve covers on anymore.Im still running PCV?

Which up pipe? From the pcv? If your here in town we should hook up and let me take a look.

Hmmm...that is interesting...yeah I will pull my pcv hose setup off and see if both units are indeed working. I haven't checked them since I put them on the car about 2 years ago. I just can't understand why I get so much oil blowing out of the breathers. The car NEVER smokes out the tailpipe at startup so I know the piston rings are good. Hell the bottom end of the motor has been never touched. My piston tops look brand new when polished up. And I know it's not the headgaskets because I've put on 3 different sets and I've ALWAYS had oil blowing out the breathers.

Dont know If anyone has primed a motor sitting on a stand...without the intake on,I did this on a rebuild and was shocked to see how much oil flows onto the valley pan,If you notice there is really not much in the way of a drain on the pan...(Felpro PermaBlue..Forget the part# off hand).and how close the bottom of the Intake(pcv) really is to the oil.

I couldnt see how it wouldnt suck up oil..Right after that I plugged the pcv hole in the intake and ran the pcv into the pass valve cover.Never had a problem after that.

Actually...I didnt have a problem before that,But after seeing how much oil was moving across the valley pan,Only spinning it with a cordless 14.4volt drill,Not draining too quickly,I figured I would just play it safe.

I think on my next build,I will make a few more holes in the valley pan...Just to let the oil drain quicker,And lessen the chance of the pcv sucking the oil up.

Also if you have a stock oil pan,and you fill the oil up to the top line on the stick you are overfilling it. The GN and TTA motors hold 5 quarts. That will bring the oil up to the bottom of the cross hatch pattern.

maybe this can help. Steve K.

I pasted this from another thread....is Steve right??

Do our turbo car pans hold only 5 quarts?
