Ok so I took off my stock downpipe and went with a ATR 3" dp with external wastegate. I also installed a hall man boost controller and turned it all the way down so it runs at stock boost levels. The first time I got on it it was fine but the second Time, the boost built up(didn't look to see where it was at) and I heard a pretty loud pop and lost power for a second. Any ideas what that was? The car drove fine after that( though I didn't go full throttle again, but did build 12-13lbs or so). Could the wastegate have been forced open and need adjusting?

did you do a visual after this happend? check hoses, coolant level, oil etc?

Hes talking about the spark not able to jump the gap under incrreased cyl psi (i.e.- boost and timing). This could be plugs gap too big or plugs worn, wires, coil pack, module, battery/alternator/system voltage, bad grounds.

(didn't look to see where it was at)

Grasshopper........anytime you have a device added to the engine that alters/controls boost and you are unsure of its capabilities one must be vigilent and watch gauge. Seriousluy though
POP is BAD.
A HG can let go and never milkshake oil or coolant. The coolant reservoir will want to run over, if it did detonate your bearings take a hard hit.

You could be OK but I wouldnt be nailing it until the plugs are gone over/replaced.

Post up your scanmaster numbers at idle eng full temp at idle

Here are the scanmaster readings:

02 683
af 06
Lb 38
Bat 14.2
Int 128
Bl118
Mph 0
Clt 162
Ats 85

Looks decent on numbers BLM are a lil off but not waay off.

Fuel psi at idle and is it rising correctly with boost ?

Plugs? Age, gap, look?

I ll check gap today and let you know. I may have to get up with Scott about tuning it.

Fuel does rise properly with boost. So I backed off the wastegate screw and took it out. I got about half throttle on the car, maybe a little more And it popped again. The scanmaster read 10.6 knock. My friend was ridding behind me and said a good amount of black smoke came out of the exhaust when it happened. So my guess Is the atr downpipe is hitting the control arm under the load, causing the motor to retard and send fuel into the exhaust, having it detonate there. Does this sound not too far fetched? Also boost creeps up to 17-19lbs. I have the hallman backed all the way down( instructions said that would put it at the stock boost rating). What was the factory boost level?

Factory boost was 12lbs, nearly 15 on a GNX, and most people without alky run 16-18psi on just pump gas with a low timing TT chip. There are a couple running 20psi with a frount mount just on pump gas. Do you have an alky or street TT chip? The black smoke is bad. You bat voltage looks good, but I'd be looking at ignition module or coil pack or both. Then check grounds. Have you checked the output of your SMC kit lately? I know my output pressure dropped down after just two summers and coupled with low voltage, caused me many problems.

I believe the alky kit is triggered from the TPS signal. You probably should ask Julio this question.

i can't answer for an SMC kit (in his sig), but razor's uses the Map sensor.......
