hey guys, thanks for the replies and the help, but.....
at the risk of sounding ungrateful - did you read my last post????? It's fixed already!!!

it wasn't the spark plugs or corrosion at the ECM.

it was a bad coil module and a broken spark timing signal wire just before the coil module.

as a side note, I had checked and replaced the spark plugs a couple of months ago when I first started diagnosing the problem.

Thanks!

Fuel System

Still sounds like fuel pressure is too low!!!!!!!!!! I will bet that your wiring to the fuel pump is faulty and the pump is not getting the proper voltage intermittently causing a drop in pressure. It is a known problem and that is why you need a hot wire kit. I have the race tronics hot wire kit and a walbro pump. You will see it is fuel pressure causing the intermittent popping.

I tend to agree. You may have a bad fuel pump relay in addition to low pump voltage. The fuel pump has a redundant power feed, when the relay goes bad the pump gets power thorough the oil pressure sender - and the pump turns on when adequate cranking oil pressure is detected. This is what causes the long crank times. If the relay is shot, odds are good the wiring connectors may be dirty, causing low voltage to the pump. The popping could be a lean condition caused by insufficient fuel.

Oh nuts.....

Guess some of us (well actually, me) were too eager to impress everyone with our (again, me/my) knowledge and mastery of the Buick V6.

BUT it is good to see several people were on the right track, i.e. the correct decision tree (electrical) .....as for the others....save this thread for future reference

Anyway, good job and enjoy!

hahhahaa! I had to laugh! I really really do appreciate every single post. you guys are awsome! I thought about and considered every suggestion. It just happen to turn out to be the module and a wire going to the module.

Thanks again for all the help!

I've actually been driving my GN every day for almost a week now. It's great! It's running *perfectly*! Of course, now that I've posted that, the crank will break in three places tomorrow, send a rod through the block and the engine will burst into flames and burn the car to the ground. :p

NoW!!......time to start "tweaking" on the tune!!! ;) (translation: now here's where I "fix" what's not broken)

Rob

Rob, Glad you got her fixed, I'm sure your glad it wasn't a wiped cam.
