I arrived home and turned the car off, and the antenna won't go down. The motor runs constantly. I unplugged the connector to the antenna, and the motor stopped. I tried to push down the antenna, but it won't move. Any ideas on how to repair?

The mast assembly for the antennae has broken. Same as on my car. Kirbans sells a replacement. Just go to their web site.

I'm in the same boat as you, my antennae crapped out in the up position. Since I don't feel like spending the money to fix it I have to live with it for now. My "ghetto fix" since I have to use a car cover to protect the car was to hacksaw the damn thing off. :) I'll get around to fixing it one of these days. Besides the local radio stations suck, so I only listen to CDs anyway. :)

If the motor is still running and the antenna is still up then the antenna cable snaped part # is 22038195. I think is around $15 for it.

Me too!

Mine's been busted for years in the up position. Is that part number the GM replacement part? Is it still available from the dealer? I've been wanting to fix mine for a long time and didn't want to buy the whole assembly. I just want the parts to repair it. Does that part include the whole antenna mast or just the cable inside it? The only power antenna I've fixed was on a Saab and you have to replace the whole mast on them. Still WAY cheaper than replacing the whole thing. I just pulled the fuses when it failed so I didn't burn up the motor. Problem is, a lot of my other accessories don't work now.

granitestategn....

That is the replacement part number but I would double check if thats correct part number. These GM antenna mast is different from the Saab cars. The end of the cable is hooked inside of the antenna motor so the whole thing has to come out. If the mast is bent in any way its a good idea to replace the mast assembly. The mast assembly come complet with a new mast and cable.

I will check with the dealer to see what a whole mast ass'y costs. On the Saab I had to take the whole thing apart each time because the plastic "cable" inside the mast was always broken off inside. I hate getting "good" at doing jobs like that. Quality my azz.:D

Taking out the antenna out of a Saab is alot easier that a TR. What usually causes a broken cable is usually binding on the mast its self or just the age of the cable, one thing too its plastic. Also a note to the GM antenna mast, one the top of the mast there is a nut that is part of the tip of the mast that need to be removed to be replaced.

Thanks for the hot "tip".;) I didn't know that the little thingy on the top of the mast was threaded on. I would have found out the hard way.:D It's definitely easier to get the whole power antenna out of the Saab than it will be to get it out of the GN. I guess Saab knew it was gonna break a lot so they made access easier. Freezing rain and ice are tough on power antennas. I appreciate the help on this. It's always nice to get info from a professional.

Hirschman is the manufactor or Saab, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche and most European antennas. So you don't have to get it from the dealer. A local stereo shop should be able to get a replacement antenna mast.
