I 2nd, that being a bad tuner has nothing to do with the piston manufacturer. Detonation is Detonation period. Too much timing, too much compression on pump gas. Mix them both, and you'll have a disaster no matter what. We all know that! right?:confused: maybe not:D I would still run probe pistons. Cool pics though.
 
What did Probe have to say? Certainly there was more damage than just that slug, in that hole.

We never spoke with Probe. It's been 12-months since we tore the motor down, and the co-worker (GM dealership) has had financial issues (go figure) and the rebuild is on a long hold...

Looking at all (8) pistons there is visibly 4-stages of failure between them all, with the pics above being the worst. If you "draw" a time-line between them you can kinda see the story of events as things were going from bad to worst. The cylinder walls show differences in progression as well.

The rest of the rotating assm. survived, if you can use that word, rather well in comparison. The pistons definitely took the brunt end...
