I have a pen that is also a recording device that I bring to work. It helps me remember who said what and when. Exactly. My documentation is very accurate.

Smart phones today record very well. I always take my phone out, silence it and lay it on the conference table with my note pad so I can see it go light up for e-mails and texts. I sometimes put it in record mode when the conversation warrants it.

Just be careful recording people without their consent. Every state has different laws in regards to audio/video recording. Before you record anyone check into your states privacy laws. The penalties could be far worse than losing your job. If you do record someone, I definitely wouldn't let anyone else know, and just use your recordings for accuracy in remembering who said what, when, and where. If all recorded parties in a meeting or conversation are not consenting, you could face big legal issues should the recordings ever come out.

Yes,check your state laws before recording without consent as it is a felony in some states.

There are quite a few states that as long as one person knows about the recording it’s good. You do need to know which ones.
Unless your the government. Then it’s all fair game.

He's a contractor working In Afghanistan right now guys. I doubt that he can record anything without getting in some serious trouble.

I'm a contractor also, is he in security? and is he contracted by a company who is contracted by the U.S. Government?

Just say "I know nothing, I just come to work and do my job" Just like cops...if they knew that you had knowledge of the event they wouldn't have you in a questioning room.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. Looks like it has blown over. They really over reacted. Don't mind corrective counseling but it needs to be equal across the board. Just had to sign a letter stating what happened. It is a local letter and should not go anywhere. I kept a copy just in case. I come to TB.com for everything....it's like a super walmart.

If the letter isn't going anywhere then why did you have to sign it?
You should have stuck to knowing nothing.

Good luck.
