I installed my progear timing chain last night and found something weird. I could not install the cam gear with the dot facing 6 oclock, rather it had to face 12 oclock. The crank gear looks fine and the dot is pointing at 12 oclock. Is this correct? I always thought it was dot to dot?

What is stopping you from turning the cam so that it is in the correct position? If it does not line up just turn the cam 180 DEG. until it is properly aligned.

Nothing is stoping me, I just don't want to mess anything up.

So the correct install is dot to dot?

There should have been some type of instructions with it, but i have never see an timing chin set that is aligned any other way, than dot to dot.
Does the crank gear have advanced nretard timing keys on it? If so make sure the correct one is selected.

Good luck,
Mike

what he said!

the crank turns twice to the cams once, so......
if you spin the crank one time, the cam dots will be aligned!
and if you spin the crank one more time .................
the dots will be 6:00 for the crank, and 12:00 for the cam!

make sense?

every time the crank pulley shows TDC, the cam is either right on, or 180 off, ( IE 6:00, or 12:00)

hope that helps!
