I started a thread on here about a similar subject but we did not get into specifics. I would like to ask and discuss the proper wastegate pipe locating most people are using with their externally wastegated setups.
From the reading i have been doing and the info i have learnt on YB.com the most ideal placement for a wastegate is AFTER all the cylinders have been collected. In addition, the exhaust flow should be as direct as possible with the striaghest shot possible to obtain the most functioning wastegate.
My combo specifically is a PT70 4 bolt with a TiAL 44 wastegate. TA Headers, and a 3.5" straight shot downpipe.
When i bought the TA Headers, they had a wastegate tube already welded to the mainfold directly below the turbo flange, and after all the cylinder collected, BUT it was 90* to the direction of flow with the exhaust gas.
In my ignorance that is where i placed it and but when i went to the track two weeks ago i had no control over boost, due to this improper placement of the wastegate
HERE IS MY MAIN QUESTION: where have people mounted the piping for their external wastegate. On our headers the perfect "Y" position would be between #2 and #4 clyinders where the pipe makes the last bend to go up to the turbo flange. The problem with that is that it does not include #2 cylinder when it comes to evacuating boost.
TiAL mentioned that having a wastegate that is not after all cylinders will cause an inbalance in the engine.
Any real life experiences would be great. I would live to hear what the TSM cars are doing.
