get the wagon i linked ya to. use it; and put the 83 in the shop or storage space.

with the wagon at least, you can use its gigantic lug wrench unit for jacking.......****, my car is only $300 what i paid for, ins is crap, but my dad KNOWS the value of the old car because of its originality; however, because its BROWN, and also a FWD car, its not as valuable as the RWD G bodies or black cars. there are a few newer cars in the apt complex parking that's easier targets than my olds lol.

I really understand your frustrations and feel so bad for you man... There are snakes at every corner, trust me:mad:

I don't like the title of the thread though, makes the board look bad... Anything on the net can get you in trouble no matter what site...

Sorry Shane:redface::redface: The title was my moms idea, not mine. I put the car in... well ill just say hiding.

I totally undertand where you are coming from, Dude. I was at a car show back in September, and while talking to the guy parked next to me some older fella comes up with his disposable camera and takes a picture of my VIN. When I walked up and questioned him on it, he was taken off-guard and says "So we know where this car is at." Why does anyone need to know where my car is other than me?? I should've contacted the police or took his camera and smashed it, but I didn't.

My car is kept under lock and key, and if anyone does get in and tries to steal it, they will meet the business end of a shotgun  If someone gets it while I'm not home, so be it. Its insured for a fair value and I'll go replace it with another GN :)

Does carfax give the address of the registered owner or how do they get your address from the VIN ?

if you have a connection in law enforcement or inside the dmv, that info is easy to get.. it's not legal for someone with those connections to give out the information, but we are talking about car thieves here, so legal really doesn't mean much.

I understand that, but if the criminals are using law enforcement to run the VIN then you would also need to cover or remove you registration plate at every car show etc.

Ha.... people told me I was paranoid for doing that. I still cover the VIN to this day every time the car is in a show.

If you have a VIN most of the time you can run a title search at the DMV for less than $5. I've done it when buying a used bike years ago and found out it was stolen. Contacted the owner and since it was stolen such a long time ago he got hold of the cops and got it off the list and gave me the bike.

I found it in a local salvage yard so needless to say they were in some trouble.

with the VIN NUMBER believe it or not they could make a key replica key from the DEALER.. if you a license body shop, if you loose the vehicle keys they would make you the key for that vehicle .. but i don't know if they still make keys for 23 year old car?

the VIN won't tell you what key to make for most car built before about 1990.

as for having the dmv run the vin to find a previous owner- i tried that once with an '88 S10 i bought from a kid who bought it from a guy that got it from somewhere else and no one ever bothered to transfer the title. i had the title when i got the truck from the kid, but i misplaced it somewhere and he didn't know the name of the guy he got it from. so i tried to get the info on the last registered owner from the dmv, and they wouldn't even tell me what town the registered owner lived in or tell me how to go about getting a title for the thing.. it was a shame to have to scrap that truck out..

They need the key codes Usually on the dealers record of sale

83 Isn't that what insurance is for? Or don't you have any?

To sit in jail or 6 feet under because of a hunk of iron is a lil off don't ya think?

Hey! Listen to what Little6pack and Dave said....not worth your life to do a stupid move. You know the law favors the criminal more than the common man. It's a bitch, but it's a fact. Play it safe.

Only if they come into your house then you can shoot the hell out of them, and I mean SHOOT. Your home is the last place the damn government and it's laws can't reach you....for how long I don't know. But going after these cowards will do you no good, only YOU will get into trouble and you don't need that. And us on the board don't want you in that situation. I feel for you, buddy, but you have to reason with common sense. Keep a cool head....you'll last longer. And you'll stay out of jail and live longer.

You should have heard and seen me rant for years on the coward BLACK guys who stole my Dad's Grand National (the actual one I have now) We had the last laugh because the police found it only one month after it was stolen, minus a few things. Those idiot cowards tried their best to change the idenity of Dad's Grand National and keep it. Unfortunately for them, the police got it back. You'll never know the hatred and anger I had towards those pieces of trash. I have a special name for them and I use it all of the time only in my home. I know where they live, who they are, but I can't do a damn thing about it. The pain on Dad's face when he came out and found his GN missing was the worse I've ever seen on him. I'll never, ever forget that. Dad never did a thing in the world to anyone to deserve those pieces of trash stealing his GN. Never. Keeping a cool head over those cowards keeps me on a straight line. And out of jail. I suggest you do the same. Just take every precaution you can think of to thwart those idiot cowards who tried to take your TB. Everything. If you catch them in your home.....kill them, and make sure you kill them. Shoot them full of holes and them some more. I don't give a s### what anybody says to this attitude so don't comment, but that's your right to protect your home, life and contents. It's exactly what I would do if someone broke in. I'm locked and loaded every day in my home. It's my right, and it's your right.

Sorry to read what happened to you. Life can be a bitch sometimes and hurts even the most innocent of us. Like you.

Bruce '87 Grand National

There are legitimate reasons for people to copy your VIN. The Canadian Pontiac site I go to has a registry for all Canadian Pontiacs, Acadians, and Beaumonts.

Personally, I do believe that he should have asked before just assuming it was OK.

Not everybody is a scumdog.

Hey man I breed pitbulls and I will send you one if you promise to riase my dog right and take special care of it cause it will take care of you... Promise noone will break into your house again.

I however suggest you checking on your local laws for this breed..
